As I have stated in my first post of this thread I have moved the old thread to the dump for a reason. It had been completely derailed, people were tearing each other apart, everybody was flaming and it was not leading anywhere. So, no the thread is not coming back.

As I have also stated in the first post of this thread if the flaming and bashing from the old thread is continued in this thread here, this one will also end in the dump.

If you read the first post of this thread you will also see that I stated I do not intend to give people a platform to tear each other apart in the name of respect.

The first post of this thread also says its purpose is to discuss if there is a difference between personal insults and harmless remarks about things in game (aka role playing).

well, you seem to think that the topic is in fact derailed. but, don't see the extension of what the topic is.

the issue of personal attacks vs "roleplaying" was very much discussed in that thread, mainly by giving as example one who cannot make such distinction, and also one who while being unable to make said distinction, bans others for the same offense they themselves commited.

So you are still saying calling someone a **Filtered** multiple times on several occasions and continuing with personal insults after being warned is exactly the same as referring to the Foundation of Evil as the Pretenders of Evil?

You are seriously saying we should tolerate personal insults and rule violations like that if we do want to keep the right to make harmless jokes while roleplaying? :?

you used the word "harmless" again, and also, you used the WRONG instance of perceived abuse.

it's not harmless if it hurts people.

i NEVER brought up the POE/FOE issue. stop pinning that on me. it gives you a straw man arguement.

I am only using the PoE/FoE thing as an example because that is exactly the kind of harmless roleplaying joke I a referring to in this whole discussion.

ah, but it's not the only thing that was said. and as such can't be used as the crux of your arguement.

Well then maybe you could explain what exactly you mean when you are saying "and also one who while being unable to make said distinction, bans others for the same offense they themselves commited."

You're right, some people asked if they had seen Robe's army, that was an "insult" comments were made about people hiding on ppt, that was an "insult" too

I do beleive we were having a nice discussion, because you (and a few others) where on the receiving end doest mean we where tearing each other apart.

You may wish to note that a group of about 10-15 of us where, and are discussing this civilf and respectfully on irc.

That is only for the sake of the argument (saying we can, and are civil), and i (and others i would suspect) would not be very apreciative if you joined.

i did once before... you moved the post to the dump, and labeled the whole thing as "flaming"...

Perhaps people just get to involved in the game and just need to grow up...is that to hard ask? People seem to get all upset when the lines of code they claim to be an empire or alliance get dragged through the dirt. perhaps respect starts with learning how to turn the other cheek and ignore those immature few who decide to throw the match on the bonfire. Perhaps personal insults should result in a suspension and continued insolence should result in banishment from the forum. And, perhaps we shouldn't keep mods in power who obviously get flustered over material issues...it seems to hamper the even hand of justice, and alter her into a mockery of her former self.

Well on the first page of said thread people already started throwing personal insults. I'd call that flaming. Only a few people actually bothered reading the topic and discussing it. I am sorry for those people that some others had to ruin it. But hey, feel encouraged to have a proper discussion now :) without the flaming.

It appears to be...

Yes, some do.

Osi wrote:perhaps respect starts with learning how to turn the other cheek and ignore those immature few who decide to throw the match on the bonfire.

That's allot of what this was about and the reason the "Respect Movement's" name was brought up in the first place, (leading by example) allot of them were making silly complaints and claiming personal insults.

Like what happened to Nuto...

Not sure who you mean there?
