Some people don't deserve to be let off easily. We could have stooped to their level and called for their disbandment...declaring that they should never be allowed to reform an alliance with over x members. That said, when we're winning a war in the manner we are this one, we're not going to so easily let our opponent off the hook with a handshake and a pat on the back...not after this.
