Seriously, reinstall the operational system (not Vista, of course :D ), it always helps. My laptop does odd things, like:
I open Winamp, and the system claims I do not have proper driver for the sound card (which is not true), and a few other bugs...I need to it occasionally myself as well...

That might explain all here.

thats an MSN server error it seems. Sometimes their servers are a bit laggy. Also, when deleting a contact give it 5-10 minutes, maybe even relog to let the contact list refresh itself.

But if you can talk to anyone and everyone BUT this ONE person, then its a problem on their end as it may be that their connection is a little troubled. I've had it happen on my end where I can receive everyone but I can't send to anyone as all messages bounce back "This message could not be delivered" or even "You are experiencing network problems, please try again later."

best advice? Reboot laptop, reboot internet gateway (cable modem or ADSL) and test then. If you still can't talk its not your computer.

hey pops, the problem your having is either on Auriel's side or MSN servers are playing up as usual but try this out: http://www.ccleaner.com/

its an excellent program (free OFC) that will help to keep your HDD and registry clean, as well as your temp Internet files and Internet cach clean. every site you visit stores some info or other in your temp files and this can seriously slow your PC and Internet connection down, so its always worth running CCleaner 5 or more times a week :)

hope that helps mate.
