Re: Do you smoke?
If you could class it as suicide then thats what all smoking related deaths could be called and the tobacco companies would win out
Not that they can ever really lose though.

Ya know, No matter how bad it might be for you...
Smokeing does have its uses, I smoked about 100 a day when i was getting "Clean" . It helps tone down the leg restlessless and general shakeyness.
Some evils can also be helpful. So i wont hear a bad word about smokeing!

I agree with that ^ Anyone can quit. I could quit if I wanted to tomorrow but I won't because it'll be a while before I try to again. Last time I quit and smoked again it was mainly out of boredom.

You'll still get the people who say "the lesser of two evils is still evil" which in your case is complete BS (what I mean is - you getting clean is more important than smoking a few cigarettes). 100 a day? you must have been lighting up every 10 minutes
On the other discussion - Booze and smokes are simple to come by here no matter what age you are. I seen a 5 year old smoking when I was 11. Which is pretty pathetic.
You'll always get someone who will buy you booze and smokes for a little extra money.
And @ Sempers post - I did start smoking due to peer pressure but as we all get older we all know how stupid we can be when we're younger and think we know everything

Re: Do you smoke?
personally i dont compare smoking to alcohol really, i mean in abuse maybe but when you think about it, alcohol in moderation is ok. i mean hell, a glass of red wine with dinner is considered healthy...... well i dunno anymore. doctors going on the news saying everything is carcenogenic..... bah.
i mean alcohol in moderation is ok but cigarettes, in moderation i dont think are. i mean they are nearly the only thing legally available that when used as intended will harm you. but theyre still available. why? no clue. dont want to know. in the meantime there are all those incompetent parents who want ads for snacks during cartoons to be banned because they dont know how to say 'no'. messed up world we're in.

oh COME ON. People who smoke MAKE THE CHOICE. I'm addressing this to everyone, it's more dangerous to drive a car or swim then smoke cigarettes in moderation. Get over it, people can make the choice and take the risk, it's hardly the companies fault.

Re: Do you smoke?
More people die from smoking than they do from car crashes and drownings. It even says so on the packet
And yes people make the choice to do so, but I don't think void said anything about the companies? And I agree with void entirely on the no snack food adds during kids programs BS. Just like ISP filters, what a load of **Filtered**, parent you own god damn children.

I doubt someone who smokes a reasonable controlled amount every day has a higher risk of dying then if he took the highway every day.
Like I said it wasn't directed at just Soulman. The general argument is that smoking should be banned/the companies are at fault somehow.

Re: Do you smoke?
I think you will find that a MUCH higher percentage of people that smoke, die from smoking, than those that take the highway everyday die from crashing. Infact, there are much less crashes on highways than around intersections, kinda hard to crash when your only going straight TBH
Not to mention not all crashes end in death or even injury. I was in a car that rolled..a long way
and me and my mate didnt have a scratch. Lucky yes, but point is that even bad crashes dont always kill.
And people dont smoke at a "controlled rate" at least not many if any. If you smoke you smoke, I doubt people tend to plan a smoking scedule.
Finally I dont believe it is the companies fault, they are only making money with a method the government allows. if anything the fault is shared between the govrnment and those who choose to do it. Although more so on the government in the cases of kids thinking thier invincible etc etc and not realising till later in life. Which i think was mentioned previously.

i wasnt saying its the companies fault. yes the customer ultimately makes the choice but you seem to forget my comparison to the incompetent parent who cant say no. their own fault about it, yet they want to have ads banned so their kids cant see it.
tldr: i was commenting on the logical reverse which ppl seem to apply all over the place. smokes, harmless ads..... ppl need to take responsibility or apply their standards universally and not just to what they 'dislike'

There you have it, if you look at the percentages of people who do not drive safe, people roaring through intersections and blindly making lane changes that sort of thing, I would say the amount of people who die percentage wise is higher.
I get that you didn't say anything Soulman, I was commenting on what seems to be the general argument most people (in the US at least). And I was commenting about where you said you don't know why cigarettes are legal.
I agree about the ads.
