Well, i did test it on the dev server, and it's not as a result from having planetary defenses

This is pretty simple if you think about it (sorry don't get here much).

Player "A" lost a planet.

He looks in attack logs and sees the conquer planet button (to take it back).

He hits said button. Now this is where it gets funny.

What if the planet was abandoned? :smt047

I know for a fact that the button stays there even after I've taken the planet back.

If the planet was abandoned and the button was still there then you would get some kind of funny message (admin's humor is sometimes lost on others  ) if you clicked the button.

If you read everything, you would see the planet was in their realm after I did a spy report, and I activated a beacon and it said it was in their realm.

I dont find misleading or poorly done messages as humor, so Yes I guess his humor is lost on me.

Spoke with Admin today about it.

The message you got, should only be seen, when you attempt to take the planet, but someone else has already taken it. (eg, you see the planet, you click conquer planet, someone else does the same thing first, and you try to take the planet, but it has already been taken)

Admin confirmed that this is indeed a bug, that you should have been able to take it within the 12 hour period no problem, and that it will be looked into.
[03:02] <Sarevok> viewtopic.php?f=7&t=148361
[03:03] <Sarevok> it's to do with having planets taken, and trying to take them back within 12 hours, but getting the message "your at the right house, but no body is home" or something like that
[03:04] <Sarevok> "Your at the right house but no one is answering" that the message
[03:04] <Sarevok> happened to Lore
[03:05] <Sarevok> back in october though, so the log may no longer exist
[03:05] <adminHere> i will check code but the short answer is that if you attack player a with planet 1 -- and 'get there' and it is planet 1 with player b ... you get that message
[03:05] <adminHere> it means planet has changed hands since you 'lined it up'
[03:06] <adminHere> not getting back one you took though is odd - will look into that
[03:06] <Sarevok> but if it was taken at 3.05, and you try to take it back at 7.08 the same day?
[03:06] <adminHere> should work
[03:06] <adminHere> if not, bug
[03:06] <Sarevok> yeh, that was the problem
[03:06] <Sarevok> well, that's the thread i posted for ya
[03:06] <adminHere> like i say -will take a looK :)
[03:06] <Sarevok> thanks :)
[03:07] <adminHere> feel free to post my explanation on the topic/thread
[03:07] <Sarevok> when you work it out?
[03:08] <adminGone> what the message means :) and that if you cannot get your own planet back, and consistently get that message instead within the 12hours, thats the bug
[03:08] <Sarevok> ok thanks
[03:08] <Sarevok> will do
Update(Oct-23-2009):
Debugging code has now been added to the system. Should this error occur again, information will be given to Admin about who/what/when/where, and hopefully he'll be able to pin down this bug and fix it up

So this means all those reported and ignored are just to be marked up as losses?

No, it means since the event was not recorded, and you (or anyone else) is unable to replicate it for testing, this is the only thing that can be done in order to find out where the bug is occuring

OK? I still don't understand. There was a post made immediately. Clarkey spoke to admin within 3 maybe 4 days and he confirmed it as a bug. All the logs were there and he could have looked. IDK if they are still there or not.

My question still remains, are we who unfairly lost our planets to just chalk them up as losses and move on, or is something going to be done? Thats all I want to know. He has known the bug existed for weeks or months now, and never acted on it until now. If the past is a total loss then just say so, if some form of compensation will be considered then say that too. Just stop beating around the bush is all.

Confirmed a bug, but unable to determine how the bug was generated, since most other people are able to take their planets back fine. Hence the debug code for next time it happens, so it can be seen how it occurs and fixed.

Ok, i think i misunderstood. I doubt he would do such a thing, as how would you measure the reimbursement. Only thing i could suggest, is e-mail the support e-mail, and ask if there's some compensation you can get for having a bug essentially exploited against you.

Well the bug was not exploited as far as I am concerned. Those involved did not do anything knowingly, so I dont see it as an exploit on their behalves.

I'll take your suggestion, tho I doubt anything will ever become of it.

As for compensation, thats rather easy. I lost two 50$ planets bought from his BM. I invested 120 trill naq in each. I lost them, and thats my fault, no doubt about it. I should have been able to recover 1 planet, so thats 50$ I lost unfairly. After 25% was lost to the original attack, and another 25% lost in my retaking, I can conclude I would have lost 50%(Actually less but for easy math we will say 50%) or 60 trill naq invested in the planet. So compensation is simple in my case.

What really gripes me about it all is the bug was reported multiple times over a long period of time, but Admin chose to ignore it. I could care less about the planets, I got my investment back out of them. Sadly, Admin has lost any chance of every recieving any form of support from me because of this. Hes doing nothing but hurting himself and his own game.

If its a server altering bug theirs a roll back.
Generally though he hasn't given anything back to someone hit by a bug / exploit / game alteration. As far as I know. :)

Never know, he might give you a dual as if you brought one with $50 on BL if you ask for it.

He has refunded certain people, but like I said before, I don't expect anything to be done. I just hope I helped cause enough ruckus to get him off his lazy ass and fix the problem. Sad that he lets known bugs go until enough people complain.
