sorry, but we couldnt figure out what you meant... was it against the last nuke, or against the nukings in general?

do it do it now!

I would disagree.. but then we'd get a lengthy debate about how filtered up the world would be if that were true, and I don't feel like having that discussion right now.

Get the hell back on topic.
Come think of it.. why have this thread? We've seen it will be taken under advisement when it does become a structural problem instead of a few spammers revolting against the people who give them leave to spam in their own section. Ungrateful.

Absurd, overdone, and poorly thought through. :D
Next one will be better, I am sure of it. :P

I am not twisting your words in the slightest, you said:
instead of a few spammers revolting against the people
which, placed in this thread, implies you are referring to it :?

As I said; I said some users were revolting. Again I ask you, do two or three trees make a forest?

You mean the 99% who just don't care? :o

Also; The above post is actually sufficient reason to close the thread, as an appropriate answer has been given. :P

When I was a Global mod I sought support from the squishy one and counsel as to the nukings and auto deletes. At the time, as I remember it, there was a lot of frustration with the autodeletes and threads moving to the dump. It was one of the reasons why the "Aims gun at Phlam" thread was so popular. People loved that they had that ONE thread that stayed through the deletions and nukings. It represented something that they had for themselves. The one thing that survived.

As I remember it, Squish and I petitioned Pookie to be done with the auto delete and nukings so that spammers (as I argued it) could have a history. A place they could call home in light of all the hate and animosity from the general section. Also, as I remember it, when the nukings and auto delete were done away with it was celebrated throughout the temple. I made a thread dedicated to Pookie and his help getting rid of the autodelete and the move to no nukings.

All that being said, I must say that I'm in no position to say what way is better or worse. At the time, the auto delete and nukings was not working (as far as I could tell) for the spammers. With the help/consult of Squish and Pookie we made the decision as we did. I can't say what works now for the spammers or what the mods feel is best, nor would I want to.

I do suggest that if spammers have a problem: think about what the root of the problem is and try to find amicable solutions to the problems. Bring those solutions to a mod in the section and work it out.

To answer the question:
Nuking and auto deletes were removed so that spammers would not be treated like second class citizens (for lack of a better description). There was a lot of 'it just spam', 'it doesn't matter' , etc. in the opinions that people had toward a section that many people loved. At the time, few appreciated the space and what it could mean to other people (and it was palpable through the creation of this group... the first of the "No [whatever]". People did not appreciate it because it did not mean something to them, and so as global mod of the section I worked with Squish and Pookie to address the concerns of the people in my section. Those whom I represented in a way... although I worked for Forum (as this is his BBQ) and the forum admin. Not everyone liked it as a decision, but it's not possible to please everyone. I had said that server space is not at a premium, and some spam doesn't hurt anyone. If you don't like looking at it then join the no spam group. If there are too many threads just post in the ones you want to, or don't post at all. The choice is yours. It decision was made to give choice and a place as a home - with some history.

I spent a lot of time talking to a lot of spammers over pm, msn, email as to what their issues were and how they felt. For many they hated the other sections, like general and the gc, because of the hate that existed there and the fighting that happened. Their home on the forum was the spam section. It was a place that they could come to to escape the hate and bickering that existed elsewhere on the forum. There were emotionally attached to the place and had a vested interest in their home. Squish, Pookie, Zerry and myself (to name a few) worked hard to create a space for them... Crimson Frost too way back in the day - CF and I lobbied Psi to bring the temple back into existence, at that time there was just the "Official Thread of Spam".

Aside:
I remember at one point there was a week or two auto delete and people (many of whom posted in this thread) actively tried to keep many threads alive so that the auto delete would not get them and there was some history there. Some of you reading this are probably thinking back and remembering participating in doing that. As Zerry has mentioned it the auto delete was 'poo-pooed' by Forum Jason, but Squish and I petition Pookie to remove it from the temple earlier than this direction from Forum Jason.

So it was removed to give the spammers a safe and happy place to call home. That being said, I say, I'm in no position to say what works not or what doesn't work. The mods there and spammers there are best to decide that. What happened then was that Squish, Pookie, and I tried to serve the needs and wants of the patrons as best we could. If those are different now - it's between the spammers and section mods. I don't want to walk down a road or have someone say that I (Spacey) thinks that the old way is best. The wants and needs obviously have changed, as we see the temple has changed.

Throughout this explanation I have used the word I because I can only speak for myself for things that I am certain on for some things. There are a lot of people who worked to keep the temple alive; squish, pookie, psi, zekk, hammy, apollo, zerry, cf, ly, Q, bisquick, usul, soulless, rek, PoT, phlam, rie, starry, facepie, DD, setesh, appy, ishy, spoon, buck, ang, ash, sarge, thal, apophis, hidden, jack, corran, velya, and the list goes on and on and on (I can list hundreds more but I'll be here all day and have to stop someplace). By no means do I wish to use "I" to say I did it all.

That as they say is "history" as it has been quoted above.

well said of the past Spacey :-)

however as Spacey said many many times that WAS the way it was done under other leadership and while it worked back then it was because of everyone involved in it and not letting the temple get ridiculous amounts of useless threads that served no purpose but to have one word or letter or number and no replies
