We went in and destroy countless buildings and what would now be considered 'monuments' in our war of conquest for the Union.
did i say it hadn't been done? mate, calm down...seriously!
i do know my history, its been done the world over, i am talking about hypothetically being done TODAY!
and since i've brought it up and just to prove i do know my history...it was a downright travesty when Venetian bombardment on the acropolis-hit and ignited the Ottoman ammunition dump blowing up the Parthenon in the process...
thank you, thank you *takes a bow*

The point was KMA you are asking a welsh person how they would feel if the english did something that the english have already done! The welsh already feel what you expect them too. A self-fulfilling prochecy.
Did you not wonder why there is so much hate in the UK between its peoples? Its because there is no other people in the world as brutal & violent as the english. We were & are vicious lil *&%$£$%^&**&^% & didnt care what we did to others.

i understand all that, BUT, has Mezz experienced it 1st hand like the Iraqi people are experiencing it now?
can we truly understand what its like UNTIL we experience it 1st hand and not from some dusty history of English brutality book?
this was the crux of what i was getting at.

Oh, no. Wrong argument, G.
Muslims don't give a damn about history, unless they can appropriate it.
One would be hard-pressed to fit Babylon into the Muslim account of history.
A random Iraqi won't give a flying **Filtered** about monuments like those.
Sure, the Westernised Iraqi's that we see on television do. But that's because they attended Oxford, Cambridge and the likes.
A random goat farmer in the desert really won't care if someone sits on top of the temple of Marduk. If he can get a few bucks or a goat for a clay tablet, he'll destroy the site himself and give you a great smile to boot.
The argument that it sucks for the Iraqi people doesn't fly. It sucks for the world. The Iraqi, not so much.
It's a shame really. Muslim scholars used to be the beacon of light in a world covered by darkness. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

In My experience; The average iranian is usually a closet zoroastrian, who takes great pride in knowing he descended from the once great and technologically inclined Persian Empire. Also they are not inharently very violent or malvolent.
The iraqi's seem to have a historical disconnect probably because they were never taught about history and fed sadam's indoctronation is school. These people carry a grudge around with him that i think was caried from birth...
I think it shows a few history lessons can go a long way

my bad for overlaying Greeks tradition of "pride in our past" even though it was a pagan past, and Greeks are orthodox Christians
but i think the point still stands for the educated people of Iraq? they cant all be dumb unappreciative Muslim goat herders

Very true.

It may also have had something to do with them not being the original descendants from the Babylonians etcetera.. but rather import Turkmen, Mongols and other kids.

Never a bad idea.
