Try to look a little beyond the surface to the regular lives of these lives of these people & see how control & regimented & watched they are, people dont like that sort of thing, it what leads them to riot with the slightest excuse.
Without such control & regimenting & watching of peoples lives less people would want to riot as they would be more concerned about losing what little they have, but since a rather large portion of the UK have little to lose thanks in no part due to the actiosn of elgov & the civil service they see no need to worry about risking it all.
Also build into that the basic idea that those in power only ever use or respond to either the threat or application of force. This is well known at every level of society again little wonder why it takes so little to make those whose voices are ignored to use the threat or application of force.
And please people keep in mind i am not approving of or making excuses for the actions, simply explaining why it is happening
Except I am not talking about anything the media has said.
I am speaking from a psychological standpoint. Reasonable people do not riot from town to town. If a reasonable person riots for a reason or a cause, they have a target location in mind (politically motivated riots that are anti-government would be targeting government buildings, not shops and businesses). Also, looting does not have a motivation other than taking **Filtered** for free. You can't spin anti-establishment when such acts are being done.
There is also the fact that from a statistics standpoint, the number of rioters far outweighs the percentage of the population that would resort to violence to get their political point heard by the government. People who pay attention to politics (I don't care what country you are in) seem to have this idea that they are among a majority that is upset by the latest governmental screw up. That isn't the case in the slightest. Average citizens don't follow the tiny details of politics because they don't care/understand and/or they know/think nothing they say/do/learn will make any difference with how things are run.
These riots are continuing because the people rioting are having fun destroying things. If they were being conducted by someone who understood politics, they would know that destroying the majority of these towns' shops would not accomplish anything except higher prices, raised taxes to pay for damages and police pay, and added ruination to the local economy.

Tell me how burning citizens' cars, small businesses/shops and pillaging will help to fight the "big bad gov"?
"Hey Tom, let's go **Filtered** Big Brother and burn the neighboorhood cars and the local food/clothes shops, and if all of us do that in every city of the UK, we will destroy the Big Brother". Sure. Very. Efficient. Not.

lol i saw that on facebook
and there is no justifiable reason for this, it has nothing to do with the shooting and nothing to do with politics, just thugs taking advantage... and lets be honest they are just making it worse for themselves... all its going to do it cause taxes to rise because local governments are not going to be able to afford to fix everything and companies are not going to want to rebuild their shops... but then who is going to complain, any decent person won't because who can blame them for not wanting to rebuild. it will be the rioters that will complain about the lack of shops
my own opinion on this matter is this... look at countries that allow police free rain when riots start, they go in batter the **Filtered** out of the rioters end of riot... here the police cant do that they stand there defending themselves to afraid to try and stop the rioters because someone will say they were abusing there power and they used excessive force and look what's happened riots have spread around London and Birmingham and millions of pounds worth of damage has been done, lives ruined and homes destroyed. so in short police should be aloud to uphold the law with what force is needed, and if some of the rioters die then so be it, they should not be doing it in the first place...
my views are harsh i know

We should shoot 1st, ask questions later. Whats happening is like an action film.
At this rate, its only a matter of time before they get Oxford Street.

Re: London
I sort of agree too with madman, but that should be made clear it's not a "normal state of things". But more like I said earlier: "State of Emergency", because let's be honest, the main problem is to protect shops/civilians from other civilians (rioters)! IF these were to be politically motivated, they would protest against gov structures, in London it seems to be totally random, and coupled with pillages.
Thuggish motivation backed by an excuse. "Let's use the excuse of a dead fellow gangmember to burn/steal stuff".

Re: London
I just feel kind of surreal about the whole thing. Running home, past riot police, treading on glass, the acrid smell of smoke in the air.. can't believe I was in England.

i agree, for the police to have free rain so to speak would have to be in circumstances like this (complete anarchy)
and i can say as for croydon/purley was mainly aimed at shops but also someone has been shot in croydon and they have started robbing houses and burning them down and also robbing innocent civilians trying to get home... so there is no motivation just thugs on the loose causing as much damage as possible
also apparently a tiger has been set free from london zoo (not sure if its true) if it is then how funny would it be if it started to attack rioters lol
