lol. I find the generation gap funny actually. We can see there is a fairly linear support of ETL creeping up but in other cases the differences are unsurprising but still amusing. 90% of the worth while players from six years back would probably have to see hell freeze over before they even considered listing JT, Feri, FM, Tekki, Cuz, Yoyo or a few others as greats (and, for a change that's not actually meant to detract from their own legends or skill)... It's not often you see history at play in such a short span of time.

The players considered 'great' by my generation are the legends of the mid generations and the fairy tales of the modern era. It's a testament to ETL's longevity and brilliance that he's been a 'great' throughout.

Well, ETL has been consistent. He's been a big thing here from start to (probable) finish. I don't think any other player can claim that. In that sense, perhaps he's the best.

He's quite like marmite. You either love him or you hate him and there's very little middle ground. People seem to forget (or don't realise at all) that EtL actually dominated the earlier rounds of Quantum as well has being a remarkable leader and player in the main server.

I don't think anyone has quite conveyed the same passion or roleplaying grit that he has.

I didn't forget about his quantum pwnage but it didn't matter, main server is enough really..although only a true noob would forget your contribution DD, also a founding father of Omega back in the day with Nuto.

It's nice that good guys like yourself Shaun still recognise/appreciate these things but the reality is I was never a particular good player of the actual game, I just always enjoyed being part of the community and generally creating both joy for the people and a pinch of controversy for entertainments sake. EtL should single handedly take the credit for the evolution of The OE however, I will be brash enough to say I am extremely proud of legacy of The Aeon Kings and my role in it.

There are so many great players that are great for very different reasons (JT started a thread about what qualifies such players by which values).

The truly great players are those who change the game. There aren't many. Anybody can buy a good account. Anybody can make a name for themselves by blathering on the forum. Anybody can kiss enough ass to build up a decent contact list. The legends are those who fundamentally alter the balance of this game.

How many of the major events in this game have just been the consequence of the actions of two players, not naming names, who are locked in an eternal grudge match?

90% of the worthwhile players from six years back aren't around and aren't remembered. Legend status is as you say partially based on the time the question is asked but ask yourself then who will be remembered and who won't be. Because I don't know any of the 90% of the worthwhile players from six years back because most of them were merely storms in a teacup.

Its all a matter of opinion and opinions change based on who one likes, dislikes, is mad at or has complete disdain for no matter the achievements and exploits in the game..If player group A has the piss for player A, well they may not mention him or her just for that fact so they will give mention to someone who may not have done jack **Filtered** in the broad scope of things and so it is with all popularity contests. With all of that said, a player that has been here from start to finish and is still basically the same can easily be considered the greatest of all time. There are many players whom I think have played ingame better, led their fellow warriors in battle better, bludgeoned their opponents better, had more wars and were better diplomats ect and so on and so forth..at this point in the game in my own opinion ETL is the greatest player in GW history as I believe he started from the beginning days and will no doubt be here until it is no more, while not being the best at specific areas of the game, overall..as a player he is the best. Thats my opinion.
