Invest in magical wards if you want to get up close and club the enemy to death. You should be able to buy a tome if you follow whatshisface after you leave Helgen at the start. Book is a 1.5k gold though, so you might want to save up a little. They cost a bit to keep up, but greatly reduce the effectiveness of an enemy mage's magic attacks.
Alternatively, it might be good to know that a bow (if you know how to use it) has a better range than a mage's attacks.
Something most funny. I encountered Auri-el, and a book/quest for the Lost Legends. (Auriel was one of my names here, and Lost Legends an alliance of mine and Angnoch.) I was amused.
I was in Lost Legends to. I also came acrossed this.

I know. Was trying to find out whether you remembered.

So did you have any luck with the mages?

i have to say, despite having daedric armour already, i feel skyrim is a lot harder and challenging than Oblivion was in the way that you can't just slash your way through everything, despite Oblivion being my favourite game for a long time itself. On the other hand it is also a lot easier to get better armours in Skyrim due to the fact that you can forge them yourself, having said that they can get expensive still if you don't find a good ebony mine.

Skyrim is probably the best game i have played thats been released this year. Im on hour 63 and still not done. It almost seems like im making no progress thanks to the amount of quests i keep getting.
@Rocky - I agree completely like you, my fav game was oblivion mostly because it took a long time to finish, and the storyline was compelling. Although main difference i feel between them is the sense of being lost. Oblivions map felt a lot smaller than skyrims and i never felt lost, even on first time playing.

Dragons (aside from when they try to eat you) are easy prey... Mammoths are actually harder.
The sole hard thing with dragons is getting them to land...
Those Dwarven ruins are extensive things... Funny thing about them is that they're all connected...
Being chased out of town regularly just because our character chomps on people is also annoying...

15 minutes is long. we can do that with any character in a matter of seconds... Console is your friend. But where's the fun in that?
Oh, and having a weapon that under optimal conditions hurts an opponent for at least 1320 damage is very practical...
EDIT: Using said dagger to one-hit kill a blood dragon is fun. The dragon took off, flew a round in the air then fell down on the ground dead. It took time to realize it was dead. Apparently dragons are not designed for instant killing. It seems that further smithing on it has upgraded it to cause 1890 damage under optimal conditions, excluding magical damage. (that's on sneak attack)
Hmm... seems we forgot to take bonus for one-handed weapons into account, so its even higher. looks like it is there's an additional 80% and 50% in there, not sure if those add up or are placed on top of each other, so its in the 4100-5300 range or so.

the lack of chameleon is a bit sad, it was obviously overpowered, but still amazingly good fun in oblivion
tbh, skyrim isnt as challenging as oblivion could be (playing as a mage-atronach was always a toughy)
