A lot of people exaggerate how long they've been playing. I'm really not sure why. Perhaps they suppose it lends them a greater air of respectability. "Look, I've wasted more of my life here than you." Those of us who have been here since the nineties are able to see through such nonsense.

I think Mordack (in text at least) is actually funnier than my current favourite comedian Ross Noble.

Any man who is funnier than a man who can talk about urinating on a squirrel who just happened to appear at the tree you were doing your 'business' on for twenty minutes and be utterly hilarious about it deserves a lot of credit.

Seriously though. These phantom circa '04 stories are absolutely stupid. I couldn't believe the the stargatewar 'beta' nonsense either.

There have been many threads over the years about checking the creation date on your account and how long you been playing etc, this is the first time Ive ever heard of anyone claiming to have played before Jan 05.

Meh, it's just some people have an existential crisis because they found out about faster than light neutrinos....means they can play the game before Jason even got his hands on a KoC clone ;)

It wouldn't be the first time i've heard of a beta going in all the years i've been around. REK once claimed he played beta if I remember right, but that could just be matcho posturing. It wouldn't surprise me if the actual game did have some form of beta running before feb 05...but for an entire year? I doubt it, would also explain why we started account ID's in the 4k's. Seeing how J operates if there was one it was probably a few weeks at most.

I highly doubt there was a beta....trust me, you could type in -ve numbers of weps and mercs and make millions, you could type in random numbers for messages and read other people's messages, you could use vaced accounts as permanent banks....there were so many bugs/exploits in the early days I can't believe there was a beta?!

Well. Like I implied... it's here-say and educated guessing on my part. I suppose I could text him and find out.. but seems somewhat trivial for a 50p text tbh..

Oh, and try telling Goo, Saz, JaseB, Wolf359 and a whole host of other characters that the game started prior to February 2005! Good luck with that ;)

That would have been a little disappointing to find out that we were all about a year 'off the mark'.

It is pretty funny though that people needed "more proof" than the forum dates and the words from the overlord of the game AKA Forum himself.

Silly sausages :-D

For the record, I signed up for the game before the forums were added.

I was playing Times of Conquest(one of the original Kingdom games games), acquired Admin Jason's msn, and talked with him casually, before he linked me to this game still in development. I signed up, checked things out a bit, and ran out of turns, all before the game went live. Then I had to wait till the game actually went live to generate any turns, because the clock wasn't running yet.

You started playing on Sunday, January 30th 2005 - 22:22:42 GMT

You have been playing 6 Years, 9 Months, 20 Days, 1 Hours, 09 Minutes, and 42 Seconds.

To reinforce this, my ID is 4266. Which should be the lowest non-admin account.
I have on occasion asked Admin Jason if he could change my ID to 1337, but he said it was too low, and people would realize something was up, so I've just stuck with my 4k number.

When I started there was some couple hundred/thousand "bots" which were just empty accounts that had no players. Rank one was held by a bot with a bugged weapon which had more weapon strength than it should, and if I remember correctly, Plumbersmack was the first person to successfully hit them for over a million naq, which was a big deal back then.

I remember when Silent Todd was rank 1..he managed that by attacking admin's account for something like 2.5 mill or more naq, which was equivalent to a quadrillion today I'd think.
