This was later, possibly even over a year later.

Don't confuse CIA/CoP with the later "server war". There was no agreement between the newly formed TL and CoP in 2007, nor did TL have more than a single alliance at it's formation. Svarun can correct me if i'm remembering it wrong. I believe it was just a few naq hits on CoP for very large amounts of naq that prompted CoP to hit TL (It was standard for CoP to mass a whole alliance for a single naq hit on any of their members). In this case they didn't anticipate the CIA response. In 2008, Blahh left TLE and began farming FUAll, which triggered FUAll into launching the "server war" against TLE and it's allies under The Janus Pact (later: The Task Force).
~Norbe~
I'm pretty sure we launched the first strike. The naq hits were just signs of the war incoming. There was alot behind the scenes.
In short TL grew to large, but CoP arrogancy left us be for to long.
At the start of the TF/FUAll "server" war.. it was FUAll that launched the first strike. Both sides were debating where/when to make the strike, but we had a NAP. FUAll broke that NAP a few weeks before it expired by launching a massive strike against TLE/TAF/TO. I'm 100% positive on that because I was TÅ HC and was around at the time FUAll started hitting TÅF in the final days of May 2008. The strike caught TA as off guard as possible considering we knew there would be a war. I was writing an essay for uni when they attacked and got an email alert from 311 frantically trying to gather TÅF players online to defend. On our side after many debates we had agreed to wait until the NAP expired before launching any strike; a decision Blahh did not agree with.
I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. 'TLE' did not happen for quite some time. In the beginning there were a dozen players, no other empire related alliance were created by then (TDL etc)
I'm trying to find some history about the first signs, but the mods of this forum never been quite capable of leaving things for the community.

Evil Caprilla, the one who killed EoB. Formed the TDL...
That's not even old TL...that's like, the last couple of years TL!

Oh.. if you are saying that initially TL declared war on CoP in early 2007, that contradicts Svarun's post a couple of pages ago.
"There was no need to declare war, there was no need to provoke. All we did. We did in the that very same day.
Well and it was not long and they responded. They decided to mass us and set the example. After all sure we were big but we were 14 and they were in the hundreds. "

He's probably right then, but ye i was talking pre TF.

Caprilla did not form TDL, blahh did. And anything involving the original TL members i consider old TL. Right now there are only 2 left i think, still in TL.

During the server war, a lot of people were pulled out of the allied TTF alliances into the larger fighting alliances. Subaltern0 went to TDL, Caprilla went to TLD, both ending up in leadership roles. TAF tried very hard to not recruit from our allies, though eventually HgE and others did join us.
I remember the first day of the server war...I was walking home from dinner at my favorite pizza place when I got the text then broke into a sprint to my computer. By the time I got there, the game was all kinds of screwed up and lagging up a storm and a PPT was put over all players for a few hours (something FUALL decried as favoritism to TJP at the time, though I do understand the frustration). I took the opportunity of that PPT to go bowling with friends, then came back and the magic started. I don't think many of us slept much at all that first month.
I wasn't as active at the beginning of the CoP vs CIA war but I remember those first few days prior to TAF joining. We had so many people begging to join the war on our forums, but our HC wanted to wait to make sure this time around, things would be different. Remember it had been less than a year since Crystal Force and all of their subordinate alliances had allied with us to take on the Grand Alliance. It was a war they started and after just one week, they had surrendered and disbanded leaving the whole weight of the GA to face us alone. We wanted a bit more assurances that history was not going to repeat itself and, in this case, CIA stepped up and held strong. That was truly an amazing war to experience.
PS Welcome back Svarun. The game has missed its legendary Roman.

There was a huge difference between TL and CF though, wich was clear before TA joined. And that was that TL had the capability to bring down every defence CoP could put up.
CFE might have been a joke at war, TA also been around longer then TL, and never stood up properly to CoP.
Before TL got to power CoP never got hurt much (Kinda similair to FS vs TA now)

yes CFE had no warring and crumbled fast.. but TAF was still fighting long after CFE disbanded .. same in last server war. TAF carried on after the rest had surrendered..
And TAF are still strong today, where as TL are well where???

TL has always been dominant lol. Last year's war for example, being around them, most of them fought DDE/mH with naq they had farmed during peace time and did better than anyone else had done before that war for years. At the time, DDE/mH were the biggest spenders in the game except for ETL - not to take anything away from them, it was an awesome war cause both sides fought non stop, but being able to compete with that level of spending with just farming is a feat to be admired.
Robe and in some ways FM (trading well) were the only real spenders. You had a ton of others (R8, couzens, thamuz, tom - top 4) farming/raiding their way and completely dominating for years. There's no other alliance that has done as well as them with that level of ingame ability in all areas. Those 4 weren't only the best farmers in the game, they were some of the (if not the best) massers too.
Bring in FM, Ron (who was insanely under rated for how damn good he was) and you had the best team you can possibly form to play "the good guys".
If Robe ever comes back, TL will be unstoppable. Just because they're bored now doesn't mean they're gone. Those players are the same as last year and a few years before. People underestimate what Robe was to TL.
P.S. KJ should be a good enough example of a current player to come from that background that dominates.

Don't feel insulted, i did not mean it that way.
But if TA wants to laugh at CFE back in those days, well i just pointed out TA was around for a long time back then aswell. And never stood up against CoP.
Also don't confuse quitting with surrendering. We were active at the admin meets in almost full senate every single time it was planned.
It was obvious to us that fighting against ETL + Jason was not worth spending our time on.
Not really implying Jason personally did anything. Just the updates during the war were enough to make us all leave in time.
Also as pointed above, TL is still around. But i figured you ment the original TL more. (And there are still a few in TL now)

This thread is a great read. Makes me miss the good old days a bit.
What the original TL did changed the game, and still effects it. It was nothing but a complete success.

I would argue that we did everything we could. The GA/CoP were vastly more powerful at the time, and TA were unable to compete alone against the whole of them in a long standing war. Understanding that, we tried to be cautious to avoid a confrontation that would have damaged our alliance. Remember that TA had leadership issues in late 2005 that limited what our alliance was capable of. Still by joining forces with CFE and taking on the GA, we did stand up to CoP. CFE crumbled and yet we still fought on to get a better surrender deal than they had (still TA's only official surrender in a war). The fact we then joined the CIA coalition not long afterwards speaks about the character and determination of TA members to stand up to CoP.
We also warred against individual member alliances of CoP on several occasions before joining CIA.

I think it's more down to a thinking habit in those days, that in the end you would not win anyway.
My point is the people that were TL, broke that.
In the end this game never had true wars, it's just about taking every defence down the enemy can put up. If both sides succeed in this over a long period of time, it's a stalemate.
I actually wonder why wars these days are even getting settled by surrender. UU/naq is easier to come by then ever, i dont see why any defence should stay.
