I still don't really see why everyone cares about colours so much. Whether they are useless in meaning or not, users still know who to contact in certain situations. As far as equality goes on this forum, everyone knows it was way out of skew before colours were thrown around .
Why aren't you all complaining about custom titles as well? Some people have them, others don't.

and yes custom names have been debated before.. only mods/admins past and present got them as some sort of reward for the work they do

It's not just Mods/Admins, though I do know the higher levels of staff have the ability to change them.

Long before I had ever become a Mod, someone (I never found out who) had changed my custom title/name/rank without my knowledge. When I noticed this, someone on staff (I forgot who) asked me what I wanted it to be instead. I had no idea, so Solus took it upon himself to use my current special name/title/rank due to an inside joke from MSN.

From what I recall, people could request their personal name/title/rank be changed by an Admin. I'm not sure how that works with the new administration changes...
