When you have a mothership and are being attacked by an opponent who only has ground forces, do the mothership shields absorb some the damage? Or does the mothership do nothing? I am curious because it says "My MotherShip meets it head on", but then nothing about what it actually did... I'm confused...

It (The mothership) is supposed to add it's attack to you defense. However there seems to be a bug that prevents it from doing that.
Therefore, currently on defense the Mother ship is not verey helpfull unless you are fighting another Mothership.

I'm not so sure that that is correct though. It is possible that the mothership shields are in fact absorbing damage from the ground forces. I imagine that the admin might have set it up that way in order to minimize the amount of damage being dealt. If the defending mothership did damage also, the amounts of damage being done to both sides would increase greatly, resulting in far greater unit losses. The losses might ultimately prove so great that people would stop attacking altogether. I know that I couldn't afford to lose more super soldiers. It gets too expensive. The end result is that people would save up turns for trading rather than using them to attack, ruining the game.

I am slightly confused by your post...
1. When defending with just troops (no M/S on either side) it is a comparison of attack vs Defense
2. When defending with just troops, but with the enemy possesing a M/S it is a comparison of Attack+M/S vs Defense
3.When defending with troops and a mother ship, vs an opponent with a mothership, the way it should work is thusly:
The attacking mother ship tries to beat the opposing motherships shields, if it does, then it gets added to the attackers power. Likewise the Defender does the same.
4.When defending with troops and a M/S against an opponent with no mothership it 'Should' be a comparison of Defense+M/S vs Attack.

The way it really works, is that having a mother ship as a defensive platform is useless ATM unless you are facing off against an enemy with a M/S. Beacuase (ATM) your M/S will not add attack power to your defense, and it's shields are only usefull against other Motherships.

The losses might ultimately prove so great that people would stop attacking altogether

They would just buy a M/S of their own...

No offence, but I know how the MS is working right now. What I am trying to say is that there is possibly a reason that it is like this. Let me explain what I see happening if MS's are allowed to do damage and absorb damage in defence against those who don't have a MS. Here is the future:

1. "it's shields are only usefull against other Motherships." - The Xeno
This is exactly my point:
Everybody does nothing but work on getting more and more guns for their mothership because it influences the outcome of the ground forces - ie the only thing considered to matter is beating the total damage (determining who wins). Thus when two people who have MS's fight each other, they each get past each others shields and slaughter the ground forces. This results in far greater unit losses, perhaps unsustanable ones.
(This is based on the assumption that many people currently are getting huge shields to stop other MS's)

2. The purpose to being an Asgard is gone. Now anyone who gets a MS can easily boost their defence to unattackable levels. This is particularly bad because Asgard can never hope to win ANY attack.

3. The sabbing and spying abilities are never used again since you cannot attack MS's, and weapons are worth almost nothing in comparison. This means that Reps are a pointless race.

4. The gap between powerful players and weak players becomes far wider than it is right now. Weak players have little hope of ever catching up. Not even a Tauri can breach the defence of anyone with an MS.

I had another reason but I forgot... Anyway, I am fairly sure that these would be the results if they made motherships defensive.

Ah I understand now...A mod needs to split this then as it is no longer a matter about help.

That said... Let me give my own little n00bish opinion.

As far as I know Forum did not want it to be like this.

What is unsustanable... You will find I think that most of the higher ranks are more than willing to shed 1K troops. War will happen, and remember, Motherships aren't cost effective. For maybe a billion spent on the M/S you might only add 200Mill to your ground forces. Thats not counting if an opponent has a M/S. M/S don't lead to the slaughter of ground forces. (I've been fending off M/S attacks without my own for quiet some time).
The purpose to being an Asgard is gone. Now anyone who gets a MS can easily boost their defence to unattackable levels. This is particularly bad because Asgard can never hope to win ANY attack.

That defense is not cost effective. Asgard can still hold there own, and if anything this helps there attack as Race bonus/detriments don't carry over to the M/S.
The sabbing and spying abilities are never used again since you cannot attack MS's, and weapons are worth almost nothing in comparison. This means that Reps are a pointless race.

Pointless nothing, if you can't see my naq whats a M/S worth? As for sabbing M/S weapons that is a distinct possiblity in a future update.
The gap between powerful players and weak players becomes far wider than it is right now. Weak players have little hope of ever catching up. Not even a Tauri can breach the defence of anyone with an MS.

This is something that EVERYOne seems to harp on. You must understand that a M/S can only match your origonal attack which I belive holds true for defense as well when it comes to damage done. Tauri are not affected.
As for weak players... Find a good commander. If anything, we today have a faster climbing rate than the ones before us. With a good comander it will take you a month to do what took them two.

1.M/S do make the strong Stronger, but so does everything. I'd rather have them burning a billion on a M/S than on SS.
2.Don't worry about attacking coming to a standstill. Wars will still happen.
3. The races are still balanced.
4. Once this bug is fixed the M/S shouldn't need much more improvement.
Forum got it 99.9% right the first time. 8)

Again, Mods plz split so we can continue this debate outside of a help topic.

I was wondering what is the point of having officers. Does it give you bonuses?

=Edit= If no answer is replied, I'll just open a new thread, which annoys the heck out of some people.

Just slightly random there, but the way i was shown to do it was simply prees "print screen" on your keyboard then open a program like paint or word and paste the image into your document.

i was useing my m/s to v/s andother m/s lately and it said nanovolly. how do you upgrade your vollies? or do you have to have ss?

There is only one weapon for Off, and one wep for Defense on the M/S.
There power level doesn't change. Even when Ascended I think things stay the same. So in essense, you cant upgrade the weapon type, just the number.
