Thats sounds interesting. Mods don't even have to be removed/replaced and it could be created immediately.

Currently if we find reply offensive we can report it with the little "!" button and send in our reason but for the most part it's anonymous unless it's a Mod you're reporting in which case the report goes to them and they head it off at the pass.
So instead of having full elections in which case the Mods that people feel are doing their jobs need to re-apply just have votes for Mods who people think suck? If a Mod garners a few votes then put him or her on probation. If people aren't happy with their progress after that set time, out they go and in comes a replacement.
Important thing is to make it public, no more cloak and dagger in the shadows because that can fail both ways. Firstly, Mods can cover it up and secondly random forum goes can be used as pawns by players who have a bone to pick with a possibly innocent mod. If it's open air and your vote requires a reason then you can't donkey vote a Mod out of power.
I am soory to say this but you a e bias, you are going out with jess & to say the least jess over steped the mark. you can dress it up how you want 7 defend her, but she went way over the top, she was unbanned which made things even worst.
I am not saying other people were innocent but if you have rules/standards to go by, you do not disregard them.
people have slagged of loas of Mods, ETL/Wolf359, but they were fair & honest, they even disagreeeded in open threads, but they always came to a honest result.
since they departure the mods/forums have become a free for all.
you never realise what you have untill it is gone.
7 now etl is banned for pointing out the two foced modding.
LMAO
he was not the best mod, in fact i canthink of loads better, but at least he was fair.

People are humans and as such make mistakes, but I think that the admin/mod team on average performs pretty well. Of course there are times when each of us gets angry at something, but that is only a natural part of a bell curve.

I vote to keep them. Love them or hate them they were chosen for a reason. I'm going to say flat out that I don't really check the forums often (I have lately though) and I don't see why we need to change the system that works.
Tossing everyone out and running 'elections' wouldn't make us better off. In fact, I'm very sure it would make us worse off.
elections == most popular person(people) wins.

I fail to see how his relationship with Nuto has anything to do with what he posted...

High Empty, you're obviously another Kelloggs Crunchy nut if you think that the entire moderator team are going to be made to stand down to be replaced by a publicly voted council.
And mightn't it be time to cut them some slack?

Ya know ... I could care less who were the mods. They do a good job and thats all that we need. Some more strict than others. Some very Slack. But at least they are here. At least they put up with our rantings, our behaviour, and our flames. So what if they get an Extra MT. Its not goign to make that much of a diffrence. They Deserve it to say the least. They arnt getting paid to do this, so what better alternative than to give them another MT.
Everyone whos whining why not just leave than. Your not makeing things anybetter thats for sure. Just a bunch of kids that didnt get a cookie thats what you remind me of

Can someone tell me any examples of how horrible the moderators are that they deserve to be removed and replaced with people who win a popularity contest?

ok - i am not even going to read this - i was informed of the basic issue, or the spark that started it, and will address that only and give my opinion on that matter.
facts that lead to this, from what i understand:
*mods were to get a custom title and 1 extra market turn, as a 'thanks' for donating their time to the community.
*no mod, nor anybody, has yet received an extra market turn.
*this whole concept of doing something for the mods was my idea, with the simple goal of letting them know that the community (in particular me) appreciates what they do. It is nice to have something that says 'thanks' even if the value is not high...an extra MT would be a weekly reminder...
anyway -thats the logic behind the idea.
decision:
*The mods will not get an extra market turn.
In all honesty, this is the easiest solution since they did not push for it, did not really care if they got it or not, and obviously it is more trouble than its worth...so it goes.
Although (i hope) they can still at least appreciate the gesture since they will not be able to appreciate the actual turn...
*No mods are being replaced by public vote. Pookie is the lead mod, mod admin, or call it what you will. Complaints about mods can be PM'd to him. He will be able to use all the PMs, his own judgement, and make a decision. That is what he is there for, amongst other things.
*If you want to volunteer to be a mod, PM pookie (agapooka) the mod leader....
my thoughts:
for people that put a lot of effort into the community (not that many more do not, in other ways - but the mods are at least an easily identifiable group that does....), i would think others would not mind if they got a token thanks. An extra market turn is not going to give anyone a winning advantage.
The words of the immortal bob come to mind..
While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society's pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
That he's in.
But I mean no harm nor put fault
On anyone that lives in a vault
But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him.
anyway - i am a bit disappointed, but in the end it was a gesture that was the message, and not the message (MT) itself, so it is not a big deal (aside from the ruccus caused) to the mods or myself to not have this ever put in place...
