The original concept behind religion is to control people, many kings introduced new religions into their society when they thought it would benefit them.

just i got the impression after reading high guard's post he wants to create a society where it's unacceptable not to be an atheist.
on side note: it's impossible to create a society, cos there's no such animal. it's only individuals and relations between them.

Sorry if I came of that way, but thats not what I want, as Come_Forth said we want to change society where it's acceptable to be an Aitheist.

To my understanding (I am undecided on what "religion" i fit into) Religion is used to reference ones "faith". Be that faith that the lord christ has a plan for us all, or faith that enlightenment will come for those who seek it. And through it all, we have faith to help us balance the undetermined factors in our lives.
Everyone has some faith, most of which may be subliminal. But we all have faith that things will happen, sun rising the next day, due to experience and our scientific advancement. But we call on our "religious faith" to get us through times of hardship, through events that we do not know the outcome. Are their still unanswered questions in the universe? Of course their are, faith is a way for people to deal with the unknown.
I respect those that openly show their faith, especially through this day and age where your "religion" is debunked by those who do not even share a faith of their own. This is the reason i see Atheist's being hated. You would hate anyone that discounts the very fabric of which you beleive in.
I have faith that mother earth is our god, and when she is fed up with us abusing her, she will give us a swift kick in the pants and humble us all.
