Idk why so many people say vista has poor compatibility, that is total rubbish, you simply do not know what you are doing... plus its basic compatability is much much better now then before. The only problem I ever had was with my wireless network but I hear even that is sorted now.

I used vista 6months ago when it had some problems but it was pretty good, the only thing you lose is a bit of game performance but its relatively nothing.

Atm though I've gone back to XP because I don't have the RAM atm to exploit it completly, needs a lot. But I would never use linux or anything, windows support is much much better its more secure etc. all games work on it. Very very good. Need vista also for DX10 which is important ot me because it is what majorly gives PC the edge over a console for gaming since they don't support it. Very good visuals.

Anyway, serial pack 1 for vista and serial pack 3 for XP are just around the corner :)

My PC dual-boot with Vista and Gentoo Linux. My laptop runs a clean version of Gentoo Linux.

I don't have any issues with Vista either. It runs COD4, NFS Carbon, Medal of Honour 4?, and all I've thrown at is smoothly, in most cases better than XP does. Okay, my game list is outdated, but I really like Vista.

As for Gentoo - I really love browsing, MSNing, music playing on Linux. For everyday use I love the multiple desktops - makes life much easier. I've never had virus or security issues with Linux, which I attribute to less Linux users, thus less fools who want to ruin my PC.

similar experience here. i installed vista straight from the disk, no updates, and it runs nicely.

the way linux works is quite different from windows. the kernell structure is incredibly different and as such if a virus was to begin to spread it would be isolated very quickly. Linux is much more secure than any windows platform

i assume you mean 'service' pack?

and back to the 'ms=idiots' idea based on halo2, well ill put it this way.
Microsoft game studio wrote the game a certain way, with vista in mind. now whereas XP can in fact run halo2, it wasnt designed for it, and is highly unstable. thus to avoid thousands of angry customers who possibly cant configure it to run on XP, they basically said "for windows vista" as a precaution.

mind you the PC version of Halo 2 was ported from the Xbox version, and to run it in XP you have to port it again on a minor level with a crack. now porting a port, which in itself is unstable is another contributor, thus the 'vista only' label. clever marketing word play is all it is.

Windows should be refined to Windows OS except for vista and me.
