Harakash Maha Vishnu wrote:We do not know when the SGU is based. Like I have said, my feeling and many others is that this if sometime after atlantis comes home so mackay or who ever could possible be gone, missing etc etc.
That may be....but there are 80-odd people missing, a presumably unprecedented amount to lose so far in the show.....you don't think they'd call in Mckay and co to try and help out? Or that Mckay wouldn't be interested in taking a look around an ancient ship on the other side of the universe? This mission was important enough for Carter to be protecting them at the start....wouldn't she feel some kind of responsibility and try to help them? She was commander of Atlantis and one of the best scientists on Earth.....undoubtedly more useful than fatboy gamer and mad scientist

Just doesn't seem rational to have such a powerful piece of tech and not use it to help survive.....
I'm inclined to believe the Destiny was a much earlier ship than Atlantis....it is one of the first ships sent out to explore the universe after they sent out stargates.....its taken it thousands of years to get to where it is....compared to Atlantis' star drive/hyperdrive combi, it seems a much older model.....
And ashu, its more like the cast of The Hills put in space

That gamer dude is *so* annoying.
Now if they had used the Gamer Dude -mark the capitals-..

Yeah baby. Rock that boat.
Speaking of rocking boats.. heard Bill Nighy will make a guest appearance as a Wraith. How **Filtered** AWESOME is that.
If only it were true.

Well.. he is the THIS IS SPARTA! dude.. so that works.
But he's what every gamer wants to be!
Right?
Anyway, shame they didn't cast him. Robert Carlyle = cool, though.

just because some actor or other hasnt appeared so far, does
not mean that he/she/it
wont appear later in the series...
as for ship age, read this quote:
the stargate omnipedia wrote:Extragalactic Ancient exploratory vessel launched from Earth several hundred thousand years ago, prior to when many Ancients began to focus on ascension.
no, atlantis and Destiny aint even close in age...
the stargate omnipedia wrote:When the ship recognizes it is being contacted, Destiny drops out of its faster-than-light propulsion to allow the wormhole to connect.
this hints at the fact that the destiny was just outside the galaxy for the first 3 episodes when they got on board...

Flogging a dead horse.
fat nerdy Dude = Comic Relief.
robert carlye = Scientific/ Philosophical hard edged dude.
Military people = boring.
Everyone else = Jar jar binks.
What a load of tosh the first 3 episodes were. I can only hope they make it interesting and not all about the ship, I know its meant to be about the ship and the people, but franky, they are incredibly boring!
Find a hiden pocket of ancients that stayed behind?! Find New asgard?! FIND new tollan?!!? bring the nox into it?!!?! HAVE FURLINGS?! Do something not boring. ZZzzzzzzzzz so far.

Well it wouldn't be a new series if all they did was bring in Carter and McKay every episode...

Well they can use the stones to have mutual trades of benefit (trade people that is..) but I doubt they will be bringing Carter or McKay since like I said... this is SGU not SG1 or SGA.. They will bring in people like Telford or some other new people we dunno yet..

But, it won't be 'realistic'.
I can just imagine McKay jumping at the thought of being able to 'visit' Destiny.

Two things...
1. That's impossible. The Ancients left earth 5 million years ago on the Atlantis.
2. That would make the Destiny
newer than the Atlantis(see the above).

Your earlier quote was wrong, which calls into question the reliability of this one. But we shall see.
we cant say whether they are fully true... but we're quoting a source that as far as we know only uses reliable information...

BS, like I said already luminal speed alone requires infinite energy, whereas hyperspace doesn't. No matter what they do, though, the Destiny's FTL drive is going to be absurd.
It *could* be using a warp drive... Where space-time is 'contracted' in front of the ship, and then expanded behind the ship, essentially... Creating a 'bubble' of spacetime, which the ship 'drags' along with the ship. So whereas the ship is not moving at luminal velocity (within the bubble), it's perfectly possible.

An interesting thought, but then they'd have to deal with some of the more interesting questions regarding that theory. For example, once inside a "warp bubble" you are no longer able to interact with anything "outside." Meaning you cannot manuever at all, and cannot stop. Unless, that is, there is some outside mechanism that does that for you, but such mechanisms would have to be placed along your route ahead of you by a vessel with FTL capabilities...thus Alcubierre drive requires that you already have an Alcubierre drive in order to function. So it would be pointless to use such a drive on Destiny.
I would suspect that they'll eventually describe the Destiny as using "an exotic form of hyperspace" so they won't have to actually explain how it works.
