how about:
moving the ingame bought PPT's (those with naq/turns/UU/whatever) out of the marketplace, and base the cost on the financial situation of the player? (e.g. 2x daily income = PPT cost). And maybe make those PPT's last only 24 or 36 hours, instead of the regular 48h, and either keep the current limit (2 per week), or limit that even more.
guess that may solve a few problems?
Edit: ofc, there should be a minimal limit cost as well, of e.g. 3B (or the current 6B), to prevent abuse

1 ppt a week - 48 hours
if someone doesn't use ppt.... it will be reported to the next week.... and so on. This realy can help people that need ppt for upgrades. I will "collect" ppts for 10days (this mean I'm not using ppt for 5 weeks) and I can do spy level 555 upgrade!

being quite a small-average sized player (1.5mill army) I like being able to store more in my bank for MT's etc and helping people in my alliance with spy levels...
the bonus's you get from the market supporter status... PPT is a side effect which stops people being able to attack you... which you can come off by spying on someone...
so you dont ahve to sit on it for 48 hours but you can if you dont want to attack/raid/spy on people and just want to keep yourself to yourself

Hurrah for market supporter status!!

bless I was such a little noob back then...
only 5-6months old at that post there

this is a damn old thread...
I bet Bel is quite glad this PPT thing never actually happened

Well since we have resorted to resurrecting threads, let's continue the discussion on this one. Yes, it is a war game. But if you really WANT a war game, let's make it a real war game, where no statistic is safe. You can no longer be a one-trick pony on main. Here is the deal. Since army sizes are so much more comparable now, let's make it so that attacks need to do at least 50% of the damage to the defense in order to be effective. Also, the losses sustained by the losing side should be MUCH greater, especially if the attack does not succeed at all. If you have a defense, it will help mitigate the losses to your attack but if the "retaliatory" strike still penetrates your defense, it goes through to the attack as well. If the retaliatory strike penetrates both the defense and the attack power, some of the defensive weapons power is directed toward the MS. For instance, here is how it would work. X has a 5 trillion defense on main. Y attacks X with a 2 trillion attack, no defense, and a mothership from hell. Y is not able to penetrate X's 5 trillion defense, so he does absolutely no damage to X's forces or weapons. The 5 trillion defense, in retaliation, masses the 2 trillion attack of the aggressor. There is no intervening defense to stand in the way, so all 5 trillion is applied against the 2 trillion attack. That is 2.5 times more power than the attack so the aggressor loses 12.5% of his weapons and attack soldiers per attack. He may replace them after each attack but if he is still unable to affect the defender, he is going to lose the same amount again. Also, three trillion blows through the attack and heads towards the MS. The intervening space debris/interference reduce this by one fifth to 600 billion. 600 billion is then applied to the defense of the MS, destroying the appropriate amount of guns and, if successfully penetrating the defense of the MS, goes on to the attack guns and fleets. Such is the penalty for attacking with no defense. This penalty stops if and when the defense of the attacker exceeds his attack score. So, if you want to successfully mass someone, you have to have a strong account, not just a lot of turns and a hell of a strike. If you want to play war, you have to be willing to take the punishment. If that change is implemented, I would have no problem with playing main with only one PPT a week and four per month. I would also suggest a "defensive" bonus for being attacked (after all, the invaders are usually at a disadvantage when attacking an emplaced enemy). I would make the change that, if you are being attacked, your defense gets an extra 10% "home field advantage" bonus. Also, if you have Naquadah that is out and they do not successfully steal it with the first attack, I believe that it should automatically go to weapons repair. In a real war, you are never going to encounter an enemy that is not going to take advantage of its superior numbers. Why should it be any different in SGW? You can make it an option if you like. It costs 10% of your income to buy the ability to automatically repair your weapons if you are attacked/massed.
Also, I believe that the number of turns used against an opponent should be affected by Nox and that any attack that damages an opponent's defense, regardless of whether or not it "succeeded" should be counted as a successful attack. Only attacks that whiff completely should be unaffected by the Nox protection. That way, planet massings and massings of defenses would become far less common and make the game more of a challenge and a war game once again, rather than just a chaotic farm fest, as it is now.
Speaking of planet massings, let's talk about this some more. You can only raid one planet a day. Well let's make it one planet a day. You attack, you either steal or you don't steal. Either way, you have shot your planet stealing wad for the day. That way, if you want to mass a planet, you have to get thirty or forty people to do it. And they all have to have rather healthy MS fleets. Otherwise, I want the ability to take all ten of my planets back in one day. If people can spend 3000 attack turns taking my planets, why can't I spend 150 attack turns to take them all back? It only seems fair. Let's even the playing field. Let's either 1.) limit the turns able to be used against a planet per day, with the size modifier actually LOWERING the number of turns (since it increases the defenses cost). It takes into effect that it is HARDER to steal a MONSTEROUS planet as opposed to a large planet or 2.) make planet stealing an all or nothing affair. you attack and steal it or you attack and don't. But you cannot attempt to steal another planet for 24 hours afterwards.
Enough of this "Let's make the powerful accounts easier to raid" BS and down to some updates that will make the server playable for everyone again. I played both servers well; I apologize for that. If I would have known how personally you all would have taken it, I would have quick ascended like the rest of you and just put my main account on vacation mode permanently and left the game. I refuse to be punished because I am not brain-dead and realized that there was a distinct and strong connection between the main and ascended servers. Now you want me to suffer in both servers because of it. This is addressed to the person who said I rule the ascension server. The fact that all of those who massed me in main are still not descended in ascension server should tell you that I don't rule that server. I can probably only significantly affect anyone in the first two or three pages, with a notable few exceptions further down the list. Other than that, I am fairly useless. I have yet to be able to successfully descend someone. I haven't raided anyone in over two weeks (and before that it was months). Woohoo! I have 186 million planets! Big whoopdi do! I lost a bunch of power on main for power on ascended that I can no longer wield due to biased updates. Instead of constantly punishing us, give me some updates that benefit what I and a few others tried to do: play the server the way it was meant to be played.

alright one problem with limiting PPT is all of you were able to grow using this method and without over banking hard to increase the size of you bank without using PPT. i go to college and work so sometimes i have to use a PPT on these days. while on PPT you cannot raid, attack, spy, or sab someone so it is not like you are able to grow at some ridiculous rate. a PPT is a strategy because it does limit your ability to grow and using 2 PPT makes you only able to use 1 MT for AT . you must then pay loads of naq in the black market for AT. so all of you who used it in the beginning do not blame those who need it now especially since over banking is no longer able to be exploited. one last thing Mojo i agree that in my opinion attack must be higher to cause any damage to defense not this 1/5 rule( i think) that is in place now but that is a diffferent issue but nice post.

I'm against lowering the time on PPT.
I use ppt a lot because I have a busy life style and it helps me grow while working.
If i didn't have the PPT option I'd simply become a farm which would effectively end any possible enjoyment i get from the game.
I liked the old version where you could buy 3 PPT's per week aka 6 but I do feel that was a bit excessive.
The present system of 4 days in 7 for ppt is acceptable and allows both attackers and defenders to play the game.

I feel the whole issue of ppt could best be solved by making it a defense bonus instead of an outright can't be attacked. This could further promote the war feel by adding it as an alliance bonus that is incurred to all members of an alliance as long as 50-80% of the alliance is not at war, This would promote alliance joining, which promotes alliance co operation and assistance to it's smaller members, which leads to bigger full scale wars by alliances onto other alliance trying to bide for top dog. I feel this way those people who need the extra protection get it and have a fair amount of say and warning when they are about to lose it due to war and can prepare themselves better. ...... ..... .. .. .. . . . just an idea

ok look i would have to say no to limiting it due to im a trade with a very small army size, and the only way i can keep doing this is to be on ppt 4days a week, my bank is not able to hold the amount of naq i get from the trades. the only people who ever suggest this are people whose bank can hold 500bil+ the smaller guys need to to survive.... with out the 4days ppt i wouldn't be able to fund my officer ascension rebuilds... and thats not coooool

To some capitalists that think this game is good for being used as a cash cow (i.e. a certain someone I know...) I say: NO PPTs.
As a matter of fact, I'll say it to y'all. NO PPTs... unless in emergency situations like a server crash (and only then for a few hours, not 24, or 48).
Heck, I know not everyone (i.e. almost no one) can spend all their time on this game. But I DO think that *that* is the core of things. People want to be able to sit, bank, sell? "Ha!" I say to these people, and again, "Ha!"
You cry because you want long PPT!? 4 days you have already! 4 days! Heck... what is so difficult to understand?! You hardly spend time on the game, and you want to be top players?! Like HELL you will. Time *SHOULD* be the only thing relevant for becoming a top player, next to the self-evident 'skill'. If you have no skill, don't spend time. If you have skill, spend a lot of time and you will eventually get the rank you deserve.
PPT. More PPT. EVEN more PPT...
To counter those who wish MORE PPT's, I say I want the whole concept reduced to Admin (when game crashes) and Newbie-only (when starting).

I think it's only fair... spend time, and you get a high rank. Spend no time, and *not* get a high rank. Easy.
For the record:
Maximum Safe Capacity for Secret Temple: 24,365,337,823 Naquadah
Turn Income Production: 103,586,420 Naquadah
Unit Production 19,160 /day
(Added to show I am no way economically powerful, yet I *DO* say get rid of PPT.)
