Great post Deity, and well over due.
"If we can’t articulate, we destroy?"
Massing Mods doing their job is unacceptable.
Massing players for expressing opinions is pathetic.
This has to stop lest Forum continue to degenerate into a wasteland for the illiterate and bad tempered.

As Admin on the Warlords Of Briton Forum, I can wholly appreciate the time, effort and sheer bloody-minded dedication that the SGW Forum Mods show. I work full time (and sometimes more) in a pub and given that I will soon be starting a management course I will then have even less time to devote to this game, but that will not stop me from spending my time here. I know from personal experience that Mods are frequently lambasted simply for doing their job, and given that the Warlords' Forum is generally run as a good-natured free-for-all and Brythalious and El Mariachi do far more work on our Forum than me, I don't even have 1% of the workload of the SGW Forum Mods.
With that in mind Blooper, I am completely appalled at some of your comments earlier in this thread. Speak your mind by all means, but remember that when you speak openly in a manner that is disrespectful or derogatory to those who work so hard to support this community, and (in my opinion) is only a hair away from a personal insult to them, you can very easily bring the Warlords' reputation into disrepute.
As such, I would like to apologise to Buck and Nuto Vixen in particular, and the rest of the SGW Forum Mods in general for Blooper's earlier comments.
Keep up the good work people.

i didnt read the last 3 pages but i have this to say.
it was a good post, up till the second last paragraph. the whole "get a life" remark, took alot away from you post IMO. just cause some people spend a fair bit of time on the computer dosnt mean they dont have a life or dont work as hard as nuto or yourself (granted i dont think i could live with only 3 hours sleep a day)
some people work just as many hours, but on a computer, which can be just as hard, some, like myself, have only just finished school and i am yet to get job (varying reasons

) and i do spend a fair bit of my time on the comp (well with it logged on atleast) as i live 15km from the nearest town (it has a hall, a shop, a gas station and a football feild) and 40km from the city, i do not have a lisence (entirely my fault tho) nor a car so i am rarely able to get anywhere.
but im rambling so basically what i was trying (badly) to say is that your get a life remark, atleast to me, seemed pretty hypocritical of you.
also i dunno why people dont like Nuto, seems perfectly friendly to me
and lastly, buck is 17

i thought you were like 30. and congratz on the GF

best i have managed is 2 years older. last year, they were 18, its a handy age in aus

I'm sorry if you felt it was directed at you mate. I hopefully stipulated that I meant people who's work didn't involve computers. And mate I can understand you from an isolation standpoint, Google Thursday Island.
Also I work at a Pub so it's not like I'm spending 15 hours a day by myself.
As for Mods not having to do what they do. I don't have to work, I could always wander into a Centrelink and hop onto government payouts and sit and stagnate. I choose to work and I don't have government bludgers coming up to me engaging n a philosophical debate,
'You don't have to work. You chose to.'
So if drifters know well enough not to criticise the workers, the forum goers should not go after the Mods.
I'd like to thank Mr Buck for taking up the shield on our behalf. You didn't have to mate.
And thanks must also go to Ayreonaut, it's hard to speak out against one of your own.
And I'd like to show my appreciation for all those who have commented, wether they be fore or against. At least you’re trying to discuss it and that's what we require more of.
Although the intention of my post was to get people thinking and then acting but posting helps as well.

Dumb ass.
And concerning the black market, it needs to be set out better, its just not efficient the current way, maybe nuto should take a look at the new black market forums
And all the title modding, and complaining, and modding, and the crampedness, and the complaining.
Just make different sections, as for me, no offence intented i prefer to use the new forum out of simplicity of use.

as an infrequant visitor to these forums I have no idea what kicked this off but as a MoD on other forums I fully understand Diety's post.
At the end of the day MoD's are here to look after the forums. they may be players ingame but here they are NOT.
Personally I detest Nuto ingame but that does not give me any right to question her here on this forum and certainly not to send filthy PM's.
The first thing you should learn on these games is that peoples ingame "Characters" are often nothing like the RL person behind them.
You should also realise that If a mod tells you off it's because YOU are doing something wrong and if you disagree then you need to follow the correct proceedures and not whine on forums or take other forms of action like massing ingame or sending abusive PM's.
I think that one of the major problems here is that the regular day to day modding is done by people who are given no power whatsoever.
Have not seen the mod controls here so I could be dead wrong but from what I see if a player needs to be suspended or banned it has to be done via a supermod.
It appears that the only action a MoD can take independantly, is to post a comment in a thread or lock/move a topic.......WTH I say?
here are a few changes I would make from exerience with another forum.
1. Make all mods global mods. Sure, give them an area to watch over but allow them to also pick up crap in other area's.
2. Seriously overhaul the mod controls (Forum may want to discuss this with TAW admin as he has a fantastic forum for moding

)
3. Change the rules and make it clear that takeing the *modded* on forum WILL result in action being taken on your game account. Refunding losses if a MoD is massed as a result of decisions made is ok but it does nothing to teach the culprit the lesson they are so in need of.
4. If someone complains about mods and the work they do, make them a mod for a week or 2 and see how they bloody like it
anyways. thats my post for the next week or so. laterz peeps

yes it true, the game not ours or the fourm, but what also true is without us the players there be no game or fourm, and I belive the admin forgot these at times, why alot of people have left the game. Personally anyone insulting someone else is way below the belt at any point and they should be banned for it. The rules are not always got our best interests at heart.
P.S Only way others can use money now is on the ingame market. without breaking the rules.
also I respect what the mods after do as well, but it does say if you have any problems talk to nuto about them.

The truth is alot of mods do neglect thier positions...but on the contary...some are vital..buck..nuto..others have the position but do nothing with it...and have aquired their position either through freindships with the big boss forum..or one of the more known admins. I feel some need to have their powers removed for show of their neglect but others should be further commended. I dont want to name people....as I cant be botherd pulling the mod list up and point out who..in my long time residing within these forums i have seen no action from...but i would say nuto needs to be given a break as I have seen her doing her job...similar for psi...and wolf..but then the latter two are admins..not mods...
you volunteered to do it..i suggest that you do your job..if you dont dont be a mod and surrender the 'powers' or abilities that you have.
I also re-stress the point alot of mods do a bloody good job.

Becasue I don't want to name names and I wish to give gravity to this issue, I will use myself as an example...
I strongly believe that a lot of people post things here and to other people that they wouldn't normally say in front of them.
I'm sure I've been told some things by players who would not even have considered to utter words/sentances to me if they saw me in real life/knew me. Some might assume that they are better than others becasue we post on a phpBB about a scifi show and play an online game, in that they are detached from the game in that they have a better life.
This lack of worth afforded to other players/posters by some is most likely rooted in deeper underlying issues, or is a representation of some to deal with inadequacies in thier own life(ie. if you had a bad day you take it out on someone on the forum, etc.).
Many players hide under the shelter of anonymity. I do not believe they would dare say some things to people that they do on this forum or in pm. Fear of personal harm or other reprecussions would avert them from doing so, and many make assumptions that the conduct of someone on the forum is refelctive of who they actually are, when in fact text as it is commonly written gives a poor account of persoanl feeling and emotion, and who that person is in real life.
This assumption then is misleading, to a point, to those who would use it to judge character traits and attempt to exploit(what they feel is an accurate assement) to their benefit in issues they do not agree with.
Such poor assesments, misinterpretations, etc. can be harmful in actual life, but I believe in a virtual community bolsters some people into a false sense of security/protection in what they say. I would be very interested to see if those who have spoken ill to me, would have the courage to say the same thing in person...I
highly doubt they would.
I think all mods knew what they were getting into when they signed up for the job. I think we all knew that people would be like this, but there really is no excuse
for it happening. It's like the difference between knowing that you could be electrocuted, and having someone you've never met use a taser on you without cause. Knowing that I could be electrocuted at any point doesn't make it ok for a random preson(or anyone for that matter) to do it.
So, basically...I wonder if anyone would say the same things they have to some if they actually met them in real life. The "protection" that their account/alliance gives also feeds into their ego, which is neither accurate or precise.
Remember, you are talking to anohter person. You account/alliance is nothing more than one's and zero's, and will not help you in real life. Confusing yourself to think that you are your account will not help you interact with other people, in the game or if you should ever have the mis/fortune to meet them in real life.
This is a topic of great debate, and I wish I had seen it earlier. Since I've been in lab for five hours today plus class, and I smell very strongly of Dettol and Formaldehyde, I need to leave the library and go to a shower...If this thread is still going later on, I'll compose my thoughts and post further.

Am I different online than in real life? Yes. If I voiced some of my opinions on religion and politics in rl I would hurt a lot of people so I just voice them online. I try to still be respectful though most of the time. The world is not open minded coming online gives me a chance to talk with people who hold views that are similar to my own.
Spacey wrote:Some might assume that they are better than others becasue we post on a phpBB about a scifi show and play an online game, in that they are detached from the game in that they have a better life.
Idk if this was pointed at me, but I like how people on this forum people actually care about science or philosophy. The average joes in rl do not talk about philosophy or science. Are we better? Who knows. Are we different? Yes.
I think that you have done a good job Spacey, I was critical at first but you have proved me wrong. You actually pm people before changing the posts and I like that a whole lot. I know that I have been guilty of swearing but it really needs to get toned down because there is no reason why sgw should not be kid friendly. The only problem with the game is that it is growing too fast. Growth is a nice thing but more admins are needed. I also think that if turns were taken off of the ingame market it would make the atmosphere on the forum lighter since there would be less turns to mass with and it would not be such a regular occurrence.
