Re: Obama wins

*Puts chart on counter and looks at bickering children*

I think the general lesson here is we are all a bunch of patriots and should strongly stay away from any topic resembling Europe/UK vs USA and stick to the president.

Oh....and for those taking these menial comments (the word ignorance flying around everywhere...what am I going to use now!?) well..grow a bunch of testicles...the lot of you.

*looks at chart*
Oh good news, my TB patient has made a full recovery, time to go discharge him!

*walks off smiling, refusing to let the ignorance flowing from this topic make him slip and ruin his day* :-D

I laugh at all this "he's the first black president" when the US/EU policy makers in the past have tried to portray that race is not everything but just a variation of ones skin tone?

I had a History professor at my old college before i transferred, a really bright and interesting man. He said, paraphrasing here of course, That the human race is one race, we call can mate with each other, a black person can mate with a Asian person, an Asian person can mate with someone of middle-eastern race. while a human Can NOT mate with a pig or a sheep, hence they are different races.

the human race FTW!

The only reason his color would be important is because ignorant people have prejudice, even smart people are prejudice, it's the way of the world. and what Obama is able to do in his short 4 years will depend on if he can break his own prejudice as well as the people he has to deal/work with.

Off topic again, anyone notice Russia's current...decisions as of 11/4? LOL

Lol Matt...it's about LOCAL CONTEXT!
Or at least, for me, it is.
When Ireland got peace between two religions, for some countries, it might look logical, but in the CONTEXT of Ireland, it was an historical event.
Same goes for USA, segregation, MLK's fight against racism, civil rights etc...make Obama's election an historical event.

Re: Obama wins

The image some Americans hold of Europe as a socialist black hole is amusing, to say the least. If Obama gets his way about half of the things he's been prattling on about, then you'll be a Timewarpesque step to the left on almost all issues. That'll be interesting.

Re: Obama wins

Some americans have a false view on almost everything political anyway..
You mentionned one (europe being socialist).
Them considering democrats as extreme left wing/communism, on top of all, of ignorance list.
Whenever I hear that democrats=extreme left/communists, I know WITHOUT A DOUBT those people have zero clue of politics :D

Do you even know what socialist means?

As Auriel said, the UK isn't. Spain isn't. Italy isn't. Germany and Sweden are probably two of the countries in the EU where socialism is more prevalent, but even they don't qualify under the traditional definition. Nowhere in Europe has been properly socialist since the nineties, and even that's debatable.

Re: Obama wins

And before anyone says something about France, most of what you would call "socialist" has been decided in end of 1940s..from 1958 to 2008, left wing led country for 14 years...out of 50. Rest was mostly right wing conservatives. Oftenly described as republican monarchs

great. so in these countries there's no public education, no public health system, no unemployement benefits and other form of social welfare payements, no social housing, no affordable/subsidised housing schemes... good. then i'm packing my bags and moving over.

I don't see what's wrong with those...homeless people can be dangerous. If there's no affordable houses, people with current economy situation will become homeless, and insecurity will grow, people being stolen on the streets way much than before, attempts of overtaking governement and administration by revolutioners being supported by extreme left parties.
Want the rise of some obscure neo-leninist revolution? Make sure there's *no* help for houses with current situation. And you'll get it.
A decent right wing party knows when there are things to do, that aren't usually following their program, when it's needed, for the goodness of the country.

None of those things you listed equates to socialism...

And, additionally, they aren't even applicable to some of the states I've mentioned.

so tell me.. how the hell lack of affordable housing schemes would lead to homelessness?

a hint: broaden your horizons a bit.. think outside of what you see..
