*Sigh* yes, I realise asbestos gives people cancer. I dont know why your pushing that point so much, I never said "only smoking gives you cancer". Also, the additives are in the tobacco from the packets that you roll on your own as well.
Point being, your just trying to defend it case your addicted. There is no defence for smoking, except in the extreme cause like Buck where it helped get him off heroin. Did it help YOU get off heroin? no.

since when do you need a defence to smoke! sure it may not be the smartest thing you ever do but neither is eating the huge ammounts of fat sugar salt ect that is packed into almost all processed food and 100 other things that we do every day that might kill us. smoking gets demonised because they make loads of money and people use it to execess which like anything used to execess is bad for you

sugar fat salt etc in moderation is healthy. key word there MODERATION.
smoking in any amount is unhealthy. money in this case is irrellevant.

drinking coffe in any amount is unhealthy especially when you realise hot water also can cause throat and mouth cancer. people love coffe but hate smoking because smoking is done to excess try having 30 cups of coffe a day and see the effect. i agree smoking is dangerous but if you smoked a pack a fortnight or even week instead of a pack or two a day then the risk is not much different from anyother loved posion we have no problem with

this hardly seems beleivable. sources of your info?
30 cups of coffee would obviously be unhealthy, thats going overboard and not in moderation, so this point of yours seems completely gone. and just because the effects of smoking infrequently may not be aparrent, does not mean it isnt there.

IN the long short of it theres no real reason to smoke. Even my reason wasnt a good reason, It was a bad reason at best. Other than that extreme there is no benifit, Although the stress relief can be nice from the old Nicotine rush, That stress probally wouldnt be there if it wasnt for the craveing of the cigarellio in the first place.

my source was a doctor when the wife of a friend of mine got throat cancer on the list of possible causes the doctor gave them i was shocked to see hot water. (granted very hot almost boiling but that was how somepeople have there coffes)
moderation is my point a pack a day is not moderation. sure theres no good reason to smoke but theres no good reason to do a hell of a lot of things we do all i'm saying is smoking is nothing special in terms of danger. (it is still very dangerous and i don't recogmend it)

Well I started smoking because I was drinking or was it the other way around. Anyway I was never really addicted to cigarettes. I always hated the way that they smelled as well. I had quit for like six months which was fairly easy I just woke up one morning and didn't feel like smoking any more and that was it. Though I must admit when I started again it was just as out of the blue.

so your source is second hand. truth is the things in water etc that would be slightly carcenogenic would be cooked out as you boiled it. the only other explanation would be that if boiling water scarred the throat and due to poor oral hygene might have inflamed it/infected it which turned into a growth and eventually something carcenogenic. of course that would be very high temperatures. now to say coffee is just as bad for you as cigarettes is quite ignorant. coffee at a safe temperature is not a risk to your health, like smoking in any quantity is.
Deaths_Rider wrote:moderation is my point a pack a day is not moderation. sure theres no good reason to smoke but theres no good reason to do a hell of a lot of things we do all i'm saying is smoking is nothing special in terms of danger. (it is still very dangerous and i don't recogmend it)
you miss the point. smoking in any amount is bad for you. and if you were really considering moderation, none of the hot water or 30 cups of coffee that you listed as examples would be there. 30 cups of coffee? not moderation. 30 cups of coffee is dangerous to your health. 1, 2, 3, hell even 4 or 5 cups of coffee isnt tho. depending on who you are of course. drinking a boiling (or close to boiling temperature) liquid is not only dangerous but its possible to inflame your throat and have it close in by swelling, a reaction to it.
if everyone were to use the same logic you have displayed with cars, knives etc then we'd be living in the stone ages still. knives IF USED CORRECTLY are very useful. cars, if used correctly can be very useful. mistreating them, (comparable to drinking boiling liquids or drinking 30 cups of coffee) is dangerous. if someone were to ram raid with a car or commit homocide/suicide with a knife, would you see this as reason enough to get rid of cars and knives from society? i dont think so. I suggest thinking about things beyond the surface.
Also, sorry about the friends wife. I hope everythings somewhat okay now. Apologies if i seem callous.

no i'm sorry but i'm not saying their not dangerous i'm saying that people know they are and should be able to make there own choice on wheather to use them or not and used sparingly they pose no
significant danger.
not sure why choice leads to the stone age i never said ban or don't use anything in fact quite the oppiste i said that things should be less demonised than they are now. but if that was what you got out if it then meh.
my main point was that smokers get a raw deal people always telling them to quit and to stop or you'll die and this may be true and for people that struggle to quit it might even be usefull but that does'nt mean others should have to become social outcasts and constantly be pestered in order to do something they enjoy (yes those that don't enjoy it should quit)

no i dont smoke member. i buy me a can of Redman everyday right after i leave the school parking lot at 11:05 all nicotine got me was a pay raise from 80 bucks a day to 250 dollars a day in my roofing career. im pushing that smoking is not the worst thing for ya. its a nasty habbit yes but its harder than crap to get off of. i just say that cuz everybody is picking on the smokers saying youll get cancer and youll die. My dad has smoked for 32 years and he still has lungs of a 19yr old lifeguard and it does not affect him at all. he rolls farmers too not the bags they sell in the stores. and like it was said when do you need a defense for smoking? i dont cuz i make more money than anyone i know thats still in highschool and i dont give to kicks i just think its funny startin stuff on a forum to see how serious it actually gets. and how do you know that i wasnt on heroin? you dont so lols stop arguing back in forth about getting a buzz or not simple.

I know that you said you chew, you also said it's probably worse. And I'll bet that a 19 year old lifeguard could beat your dad in their iron man contests. Or hell, even just holding thier breath. maybe not, your dads probably used to not being able to breath.
Not to meantion nicotine wouldnt have had squat to do with the pay rise. Bosses dont give out pay rises cause someone smokes, they give them because they work hard, and have stuck with the job. You can work hard without being addicted to a substance. I never said you need a defence for smoking I simply said there was none, yet you sure keep trying to defend it.
Also, im willing to bet you were never addicted to Heroin. Firstly the % of people who are/were addicted to it on this forum would be extremely minimal, not to mention you probably would have brought it up after seeing bucks post if you had been. AND your mind isnt quite colourful enough to be that of an ex-junkie.
As for defending smoking, I would prefer people to say, such as mordack, that they know it's bad for them, they do it cause of this even though it's no excuse, and that they will quit when they want to. Modrack has my respect for that, cause he's not trying to BS people, let alone himself. You tell em you cant quit, i call BS, anyone can quit if they want to badly enough.
