No offense, never liked this strategy and basicly it was one of the basic reasons why I fought these empires so long.

I can see where you are going with this but bear with me, if someone joins the game and leaves because he is hit, why do we wanna keep them here if we have to make sure not to touch them because they are so sensetive that they'll leave the game at first sight of trouble?

Well the reason people might leave is because, they might lose a lot, ie something that took them long to build up, if you have someone then to come along and take it all away, just because he could, that person might then leave, because he sees no point in building anything up with bullies around to just mass you down again.

It gives you something to fight for in a war game. This isn't Sims or buildwars. U don't build up defenses and expect them to stay that way forever. U just build it so your enemies have to spend resources to hit you.

I have played dosens web based text games over the past 15 years.
Only few games still exist ... and generally, its the odl garde that lingers cos of their sense of community with other old players.

Ever figured it as a natural events that games die out too ?

For instance, now with some of the series being cancelled, I would see that as a much more viable reason why people loose interrest ... or better said ... not enough new potential players gain intrest.

People come and go all the time .... everywhere

edit: typo

there are a lot of ways to play this game, warring is not the only way. Not everyone builds so that they can war.

i would agree with nostra too, but that can't be helped by us in the long run.

Every war is fun, also peace between wars is fine. And players needs time to fight and time to build. Theres barely 2% of players who ever tryed GW who can fight and build at the same time and only 1% are those who want to play this style. So... From 100 players we can gain maybe 2 new for the comunity, which by this trend means decreasing amount of players.

I can agree to that - but leaving coz a few stats are taken away once is hardly the type of people that are right for this game.

It's just how it is. I think we need a different approach to get more people to play then to stop massing certain players.

If someone that likes to mass planet defences came along and saw that account with so much naq put in to it's planet defences and they decided to mass it then fair do's to them. But for someone that isn't interested in massing planet defences comes along and advertises on the public forum they have an ID for someone to mass a planet is pretty low and is going nowhere towards increasing activity in this game.

So what? Those players should have some sort of a heart symbol in their nick and be left alone? Expecially after ME came into existance.

Warring is one way to play this game, and those players should stop doing that because others just wanna build stats? How do said players know if they're hitting a warring member or a stat builder and peacekeeper?

Back in the past when people massed for the lulz/educating/ME chasing...and some of the targets left the game, people said "if they cannot handle massing they shouldn't play this game". Back then, there was at least 350 players online at once up to 500+ ingame, forums were much more active, and there was a flow of new players to replace the quitting ones.
Times changed, and if the people who practice massing for the lols/educating/ME chasing don't realize that nowadays the newcomers amount tends to decrease, and keep going massing with random ID generator or "too much stats built"/"lots of ME to gain" as much as they did, well, it's not hard to figure out, that a % of the targets will leave like before, and slowly but surely the amount of newcomers will decrease and won't replace the new/old players leaving, leading to the situation of today, and to something worse of future, simply because nowadays mmorpg text based games about stargate aren't as attractive as they used to be. It's simple maths, and logic.

Yes and there are many reasons people leave the game, and other peoples actions is just one of them.

But it's rather foolish when someone creates a thread concerning the decrease of players in the game and asking for suggestions of how to improve this and then that same person offers an ID for people to mass because he feels they are stupid in how they play the game and that he can do it for the lulz. Human stupidity.

Epic thought hey? Oh right of course you are so right JT.... let's see, why don't we spend the time recruiting new players so that people can then make threads like this and drive those new players from the game.

"Hey come join GateWars it's a cool game"
"Ok, thanks, i've joined"
"Cool, have fun"
"Hey some moron advertised my ID because he thinks the way i play is stupid."
"Oh yeah there are some people that act like that"
"Then why did you invite me to a game with people like that.... I thought you said it was a cool game"
"......"

It's a fact that the stream of new players went down by a lot after SG-1 and SG-A got cancelled etc. It had much more to do with it then massings.

I remember a vote once, most players in 2005-2007 found the game through SG related forums, sites and searching the web for SG games.
