Lithium wrote:well then yr question is
where did the celebration of the holiday we now know as christmas began?

and it asks for the connection from where Christmas is connected to another festival or fest.

since the birth of Jesus cant be known then that date was placed as a feast in the end day of saturnalia pagan fest, perhaps to get more followers somehow.

now yr hints are not related to the question , because if its not during the religion age (which is normal) and Roman empire (here it mess up because it means theres no connection between the christian christmas fest and any ancient fest prior to roman empire) , remember that the rman empire are quite ancient.

Another hint, it predates the persian empire.

If it predates the Persian Empire, then I would have to assume it is the Babylonian's celebration for Nimrod ( name makes me laugh every time) as the sun god. Many many many cultures in the area consider that time of year to be the birth of the sun (ie, Unconquered Sun) and/or the Sun God. Babylon did it first, though.

:-D cha-ching

Also known as the Mother/Child cult whereas Semirimas was the virgin queen that gave birth to the god child of whom was also her husband. The tree adornment and other things was scooped right up by the supposed christian church and incorporated babylonian paganism into its practice and called it "christian" when in fact no such practice was ever condoned by any biblical teaching by God or Christ or any of the writers of the bible.

Yeah, the whole wife and mother thing is a bit creepy.

Freud would have a field day with that. ;)
Sweet Psyko, the Babylonians recorded it first (rather, the earliest recordings we found on the subject are Babylonian). That is to say, it is unlikely that they would have invented it.. if only because mankind walked the earth for at least twenty thousand (and as some say, up to two hundred thousand) years. Imagine what has been discovered and forgotten in that amount of time. We are just a very short burst of 'intelligence' and 'civilisation' on the cosmic timeline. :P

*grin* Typical that a non-player would win the trivia. :-D

If you look back on the humanity's history you'll see that every army stopped fighting during christmas and easter.

And if you're a British you also stop fighting when ever it's a tea time.

I like to think of massing on christmas as part of the whole "season of giving" kind of thing.

Now, now. I never answered his second question.

I figure whoever can answer that can have the winnings.

#1- where did the celebration of the holiday we now know as christmas began?
Hint..it predates the church age and the Roman empire

#2- In Christendom, what event are Christians to observe/celebrate?
Hint..there is only 1, and it is not a holiday

Any takers on #2 ?

King James Bible wrote:After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

As the "New Covenant", referred to / alluded to / mentioned in: Exodus 24:6-8 | Jeremiah 31:31 | Luke 22:20 | 1 Corinthians 10:16 | 1 Corinthians 11:24 | 2 Corinthians 3:6

As far as I know, this is the only actual instruction directly from one who is / claims to be God (Jesus, and not one of the prophets or disciples or second-grade disciples), concerning an event Christians should observe. (The reason I distinguish between these is because to me, prophets and disciples are just humans interpreting things -very very fallible-, and an actual God commanding something deserves at least some more attention and scrutiny in my opinion.)
I am interested to learn what, if any, you have found as another instance, Charles.

Stuart Gordon wrote:A Christian might say it goes back all the way to the Fall of Man and Gods decision to offer mankind redemption through Christ.
That'd predate almost everything, from a creationsits's perspective.
I like this answer. It actually works, in that it does define a clear -albeit mythological (strictly in the sense of the definition)- explanation for the origins.

*grin* Cultural awareness != biblebashing.

Besides. It is evident from God's attitude in the Bible that he prefers the strong to prevail over the weak.
I wholly agree with that. :-D In fact, the weak should perish before the strong. Be prepared.

And a twist to that, GOD makes the weak strong in order to prevail ;) A n often missed yet undeniable theme throughout.

unfortunatly my cultural awareness comes from serving queen and country most of my life and im as much a beliver as the next man but i just dont see how it applies to a game with this kind of base play to it.
i think if there is a ceasfire it shoudnt be applied on a religiouse basis as more of a time for families.
