Very good point - I think this section should be totally viewable to the general public and even have a section for public imput besides the HC members of the council especaily since not all GW members are in alliances and might well have something to contribute to this

It is definitely something to think about.

The top priority is to get the Galactic Council settled and some basic rules established though

Unless im mistaken, the alliance leaders only represent their alliance as a whole, because everyone in the alliances is technically in the "Galactic Council", the leaders should be the only ones to speak but everyone should be able to see what is going on.

Lets be honest all alliance leaders will talk to people about what they discuss in the council one way or the other, and so they should because the council is for everyone's benefit at the end of the day.
I think once an idea is agreed with the majority in the council, its then the best idea to put a topic up in the suggestions area so that at least everyone can have their say. And then the idea can be brought to Jason.

What is supposed to happen is Ideas to be presented by each council member are hashed out in each own forum, then that list is presented to the council and posting is done and open discussions take place, then a refined list is made to be presented to admin for requested implementation. Or we can discuss it in the GC forum closed to members and open it when the ideas are ordered., we need to remove the randomness otherwise it will be as the other update discussion threads, allot of inneficiency and squabbling that leads us nowhere.

If read only is how it ends up being, the threads for reading should only be made available after the council is done discussing it and presents the idea to the community for evaluation. Simply because you will have people either making threads where they can post about it or will have people PMing the bejebus out of the council participants in reply to things (at which point the restricted access means nothing).

The point is that not only the leaders of the alliances are part of the council, it doesn't matter if you make it private, people will still talk about it with their alliance mates and decide on what to do, because the leaders only represent their alliances.( and that is how it is supposed to work
Pming council participants is also not exactly bad is it?? at least that way the participants know the general thoughts of the public.

Making it restricted so that only alliance leaders post is a good idea because it means the ideas can be presented by each member once discussed with alliance mates, and there are no random suggestions that lead to nothing.

Making if viewable just means that all council "members"(ie the everyone in the alliances who are part of the GC) can see what is happening and they can then discuss things with their alliance leader who can put forward ideas that the whole alliance agree on.

GC section shall be viewable to the rest of the community, transparency is the key for positive feedback's.

GC members should have some rules how to conduct the "workshop". (ie rule 80/20)
GC members should use problem determination skills to evidence where the game leaks in general. (this section can be private or not)Then a problem is posted in a separate public thread for discussion until an agreed solution then forwarded for feedback's to the community. It is very important not to be in large number in GC otherwise agreement wont be ever reach.

I think this whole procedure needs to be transparent...what some might consider irrelevent might not be for others - who are we to decide that? I think people should see what we are doing and let thme judge for themselves and indeed if they wish to give feedback then they can do so via thier alliance rep and/or in the case where theya rent represented in an alliance-via a writable section

Either way - for this to work we need all the support we can get and we can only bolster our case by keeping it open to all

I think its a ridicolous approach you took with this "think tank", restricting and moving it in the backroom dealings.

I`m sorry but dont give me the "public discussion gets marred by emotions" etc. Like a quarter of the participants are mods and you`re telling me the collective might of that isnt capable of keeping one public thread/forum on topic? If you`re not capable of that how are you capable of brainstorming on the future of the game lol?

Only "positive" out of this is the fact that you`ve set up a racket you can point at while nagging admin for updates and claim some legitimate overall game representation. Too bad its completley untransparent and since its "invitation only" (by being restricted to leaders of entities that will go through the motions to apply) also unrepresentative of the wholesome comunity it will claim to champion.
How "positive" this aspect is we wont know till we see the results that are presented to the community at large as "fait accompli".

Ya except the fact that any alliance can join and choose who they send to talk about things... so how is it private? To claim that it is not transparent is again a baseless claim. At this point it hasn't been decided if ALL of the section will be readable, if only SOME will be readable, or if NONE of it will be readable. I don't think anyone who has posted wants none of it visible. It seems like most what some of it visible and a few want all of it visible.

It's not backroom at all just tell the person or persons representing your alliance your idea and they will present it... In a democracy you don't have every citizen screaming in a giant room. You have appointed representatives who talk with other representatives. Much cleaner and simpler.

It's been proven that discussions like those in the "Suggestions" section where it's people posting endless saying the same things in different ways, and never changing their mind or coming to a compromise does not work. Will this be any better, or will it fail? Who knows but it's better to at least try with a chance of a better system than go with one you know doesn't work.
