After reading the other topic, made by Nimras, I was thinking as I typed and I wondered, what is a mod. I know to me, a mod is basically a cop, for the forums. Its a job, they have a boss, simple.

But I wondered what do other people think mods are? I mean the general atmosphere around here seems to be that they are a pile of crap..which is totally out of order, but now is your time to throw out into the air, what you actually think a mod IS.

(There is NO need, what so ever, for personal examples, insults, or any names to be mentioned.)

So? What are the moderators? What is their role to you? Their meaning? Their Etiology, I dont know...how you want to describe it.

a moderator is the person who is here to make sure that as far as the forum rules go they are respected.

when they are broken, it is up to them to FIX hte issue to bring it back to the rules; not so much locking a thread, but rather MOVING it.

No, really, they all just have large targets painted on themselves, and when anything happens that the forum goers don't agree with, it is always their fault.

It's a shame really, but its always been this way and I don't see it changing.

To me a mod is like a condom

it protects you from a premature life of heartache and shame, but it really feels better when you don't have them

plus they are cheap and abundant and when you got one it means some good times are ahead!

and they are needed for society to survive.

Aren't you a mod? And your wrong. The target isn't painted on them because they (you) are mods. It is because they (some, including you) have offended players via the forums. Mod or not, they would of been massed.

Aye, thats what this thread is about yes? what we think of moderators?

i suppose i am the only one that believes all the mods are some sort of hobbit-midget ninja people.

To me, a mod is first and before all a person, who has been GIVEN special powers to police this forum (enforce rules, improve general atmosphere). They receive their powers from Admin (or his representative) and owe responsibility only to him. Admin in turn owes some responsibility to the community, but that's beside the point. Moderators assist Admin in answering questions, editing the content of individual posts, managing discussions and generally keeping a good atmosphere.

A moderator is responsible for flaming, and is to have both the power and the mental authority to bring flamers to justice. They are to keep the forums a friendly place, keep insults at a minimum and actively hunt down illegal activities and rule breaches.

It is my opinion that moderators should be allowed at least ONE account that is NOT linked to their moderator account, so as to allow them anonymous participation in important debates.
Moderator accounts should never be used to make a statement other than to quote the rules, breaching of this being reason for a possible suspension of the moderator's powers.

It is important moderators have the power and the mental authority required to maintain rules consistently, as a lack of order and respect causes the forums to lose many members that would otherwise have been able to provide a valuable contribution to the forums. Such a development will cause the forums to appear even more like a one-man-show of the loudest.

Moderators are to be available at all times (or at least during a full workday's amount of hours) to kill any crises or eliminate rulebreakers.
Basically, moderators are housecleaners and policemen in service of Admin and the community.

A mod is a crazy person.

Well on this forum anyway, you cant possibly be sane and mod this forum, it just aint happenin.
