it has no purpose... it was around when descension wasn't implemented.

It was around when descension was still an idea... you were meant to get knocked back a rank each time you got descended but they left it too long.

It is a useless feature as of now, has been around since I entered ascended.

There have been many, many topics on this. It was a feature created, put in place, but never used back when ascended was a viable game. The feature does nothing , and no one really knows what it was even meant to do to begin with.
