Time till attacked?

Hello, just joined the game a day or so ago.
Was wondering what the average time between coming out of PPT and being attacked is. Of course it depends on Naq and Army size,
But are players particulary ready to pounce on newly hatched PPTs, or might I have some time to pursue an offense?
Really awsome MMOG BTW

There are 3 general reasons for someone to attack you:
1) you have a lot of naquadah (millions, sometimes tens of millions)
2) you pissed them off and they're feeling vengeful
3) they're a newbie who has no idea what they're doing and you just happened to attract them.
So simply put, it depends. The first attack generally seems to come within a few days, from my experience and my friends' experience. Generally the first to bother you fall into the #3 category.

... I'll try to keep the Naq below 5K.... That and currently having a ratio of of about 1K Naq/8 troops should keep me safe for a little bit
(I assume?).
With the money 'freed up' from defense I guess it's probably time to start looking into buying a small farm. Iv'e heard that inflation's bad in this game and it's best to start early...

At current times, it's pretty safe to have up to 15mill naq out.
Just some general advice:
Make good use of your attack turns - declare war if you want to take as much naq as possible (although with increased casualties - this still won't affect small army's casualties at all).
Work on your Unit Production from your Training page.
A commander can give you up to 30% of his income (shared between all his officers). So if you find a good one, you can be earning a lot more naq than you probably are at the moment.

Another question without starting a new topic, any recomended minimum attack ratio? I.e. I attack some one with a total of around ten units, can I get away with using as little as 4 Attack units?
Assuming they don't have any Defense upgrades or high powered Def. weapons. I'd Rather like to test the waters before launching an assualt of my own and coming up short.

It's typically better to only have the best weapons for each purpose (attack and defense).
A common strategy is to recon your enemy beforehand: either spying with your spies (looking at their defence stats and comparing with your max attack power), or using only one attack turn to see if your attack can get through their defense.
But really, there isn't much need to be bothering with stocking up weapons. Ideally you should be working on your Unit Production up until you can afford plenty of the best weapons per turn. By all means attack to get naq so you can upgrade your Unit Production, but really if you find the right targets (and there are lots of them out there) you only need one weapon and one soldier to break their defence and come home with a load of naq.

Just made a string of VERY succesful attacks...
I wish I had known just how easy attacking was 24 hours ago ...
Not one of the six or so had any defenders and I made around 250k,
Far more than I've ever seen

, but hey i'm used to seeing 300Nq/turn. Of course i'm sure I'll encounter some Defense soon...

You can probably afford to be more picky. There are people with around 20million in the open. All you have to do is sift through a few attack pages.
And about that income, take a look through the Recruitment Center on these forums. You may find someone who can offer you millions of naq per turn.

yes im not completely sure which page but i know at page 200 and on most people have 0 defence and lots of naq

Well its masivly multyplayer, online, and a browser role playing game so...But meh...
