I think assassinated is reserved for political figures.
Like, if the pope was murdered he would be murdered, but if a senator is murdered it's an assassination.

i know i have the best answers hahaha. but i think if i heard the pope was killed i would call it an assassination. prolly anyone u have ever heard of on national news is someone who is assassinated not murdered.

What if I wasn't the man and I was killed for political reasons? It still fits the definition but whose ever heard of someone unpopular being assassinated? Low lever politicians have political implication but they're still murdered instead of assassinated.

matter of perspective. If my great aunt ruby is killed by someone, to me it may be assasinated, to the police it may just be murder. Everything is perception.

I always thought you could only be assassinated if you were killed by a hired assassin.
