Revision to rules - Posting of stats (discussion)
As the rules were written by the community, for the community it is only fair that there be a public discussion before they are changed.
The rule the mod team and I would like to add would ban users from posting others stats. Users would still be permitted to post their own stats.
The reason we would like such a rule is that it seems to somewhat cheapen the covert aspect of the game. As one mod put it, “What is the point of having a covert ability if you can simply go to the forums and look up your enemies stats?” Of course people can still trade information and give it to their friends, but that’s also an important aspect of the role play. We feel that allowing it in the official forums however makes it to easy and basically, takes the fun out of a major aspect of game play.
What do you guys think?

well there really isnt anyone I hate, so I suppose everyone is my friends, unless in war that is
would that then mean I could post full stats, I dont remember if I have at any time anyways, but we need to make this a little bit more obvious like
either able to post stats other than your own or not on the sgw forums, keep all stats private ect including personal ect

Put an addendum for the Galactic Collosseum, where in times of war posting of other ppls stats is not an offence.
such as
"oh yeah how abut that xxxxxxxxx covert you currently have" or even an entire sheet of before AND after stats (before u mass and after u mass them)
showing off someone's stats after u mass em is more of an achievement hten anything, and posting someone's stats and showing them that u know they have it... thats intimidation on a role playing level

Can i point out.
That Back in the day, Admins made the rules, And they where obeyed. End of, Not even mods had a say...
Secondly.
The forums are nothing to do with the game.
As has been pointed out many times, Mods getting massed for forum actions is "out of order", So why would it not be ok for them to be massed, But also for it to be ok for them to keep everyone from seeing stats etc...
Makes little sense.
If you want the forum to protect your account, then why arent the mods protected? "Ohhh they can change ID's" you say, However if they do, they get complained at for unfair treatment etc.
Bottom Line, It wasnt a great rule, and it made no sense, Forum is nothing to do with game. So why should the forum stop the game being played in a more expanded or original way? Chances are if your in a war, your screwed anyway and most people can see your stats.
God i cant stand this place anymore.

Does that include the open posting of Ascended and Main IDs? I mean I know a lot of people know them but if you do not know what someone's main ID is you do have to covert it in ascension then find it in main.
I agree with the no posting of stats but it's kind of hard to say you massed someone as that well definitely implies that their stats are somewhat lower than what they were previously. So in that way I think the context of how you are posting their stats is important.
Certainly in the black market threads of 'I wanna buy XYZ's ID's stats' are okay as that's a one to one trade but random posting of stats in threads shouldn't be happening, IMO.
Mods have been massed in the past for their actions. I certainly do not agree this should happen but if it's a war, and you are against the mod then posting in the right war thread that XYZ has been massed is a legit post.

posting IDs should be fine, as any person can easily find an ID..

I thought it was a rule anyway? You never used to be allowed to post people's stats. There ID's yeah, battle reports yeah, the ingame names yeag, but not direct stats.

that rule was for some strange reason removed... probably due to being forgotten or something like that...

I originally suggested that rule.
It was removed during the revamp of the rules.

It was a rule when i started in April 2005, not sure when it faded away. It always seemed like one of those rules of war to be obeyed like the Geneva conventions. Not posting anyones CURRENT stats(unless you removed them and they were 0). Saying you took someones Def from 250bil to 0 was cool, but saying so and so has only 10bil def, and btw he has a high UP or makes 10bil naq/turn wasn't.

Eh, lol. I'm quite sure that this rule was created to stop the3rdlibra LOLOLOL from telling the rest of Goa'uld community what ELUISIVE's defence was at, in um... 2005 XD Anyhow, I'm right behind the rule, especially since i admitted all that time ago that it was an utterly deplorable tactic, selling someone's defence rating for attack turns XD muuuahahahah

I think posting of somebody's stats is perfectly fine.
I mean, why shouldn't it be? Forums and Game is separate, and one side should not censor the other.
On that note, I don't see how selling stats can be considered illegal business? I mean, it's bound to happen. so why not let people who don't have connections on msn or within alliances to get that advantage too? Furthermore, there is bound to be a balance. Ex. selling stats gets you massed, or you have to maintain high spy level etc And to get stats, you have to pay for it.

All not post stats etc, is just to keep the bigger players 's stats secret from smaller players. Because once an account reaches a certain point, you can see anyone from there.
On another note, I don't see how giving out ids is okay. Because giving out ids is far more hurtful than giving out stats. Because ids don't change, while stats do. And some people may really wish for their id to stay hidden. So if there's a banning of stats, ids should be banned too.
Overall, I believe that Forums and Games should be separate. And nothing should be banned. But if stat posting is banned, id posting should be subsequently banned.starry~*
