how much attack power would you need before you could be hierd to be a merc or a masser i assume it is in the 100,000,000,000 range

to get hired?
most likely it would be around 20 million+ army. the strike stat wouldn't matter because you can easily train a big strike. it would be more important to have a few big strike planets and a nice mothership with lots of miners and lots of naq in the bank.

Well TBH all you need is 1 man. Even the little guys need mercs too, unfortunately they usually dont pay good. The strike power of a merc just depends on the def power of the mark.
Go to purg, everyone hires massers there since many cant chase people there.
