Destroying Planets

I would love to see a new attack type that allows you to destroy a planet instead of stealing it. In order to destroy a planet you will have to break its defence and mass it down but you can attack with your full mothership strike, not only the fleets.
This attack type would have to be very costly and maybe some modifiers will be needed, so it is hard but not impossible to nuke a planet.

It would have to cost the person attacking alot, else some people could just use there MS's to go and destroy a planet everyday, with little to no loss for themselves.

I have asked for the same many times over. I even gave some good "down sides" to the idea.
1. You need to have control of the planet for 24 to 48 hrs to properly prepare it for destruction
2. there should be a set cost involved to account for the resources used to destroy it, say 2 or ten times the cost to increase the planet size from where its at now.
3. make it another MS action that keeps it accupied for 24 or 48 hrs as it has to drag the planet away from your realm to keep colateral damages low.
I cant see why we can create planets at will but cant destroy a single one, soon there will be more planets then players.

You can already "destroy" a planet if you mass it down if it has a big def, and when you steal it rebuild def, one who lost it mass it again, steal it back, and so on three or four times...costs for upgrades will be too stupid to be useful planet at the end!
I don't agree, that would be overly used and snipers/multies would be used for this!

Personally i think, if you want to destroy a planet, you have to smash one of your own into it, knocking it out of the players orbit before your MS can then go in and take over,
You would need a planet of equal size, and at least 50-75% of the defense of the planet you where going to hit, so say
Huge planet 100bill def
You need
Huge planet 50-75bill def just to knock it out of orbit,
(also make it like a 24 hours attack) ( either take a planet or destroy it, no MS to help with attacks of any other kinds )
(result your own planet is destroyed)
Then you can send your MS into destroy it, to stop abuse here your MS must be at full strength ( or have a min set number of fleets/shields/weapons say (35-50k) which must be ( fully armed with all available fleets, def and attack weapons on it, if these reqs are meet then the planet is destroyed and you lose 50% of the weapons, shields and fleets, ( not hangers etc )
This would make it very very costly to do.

Can you just mass the planet down before you do this att? then all you need is a crap planet with no/low def to smash against it?
I can live with this idea.

Bad idea as the current massing system and stubborness of both parties can make the planet so weak it's useless to keep it...and it got sent away or abandonned if you prefer, by the last keeper.

hmmm
the only prob i see, "only glanced" at the thing, is that you have to do some "balancing" Thought...
If you attack with full ms your "ofence strength" gets bumped up quite alot planets def remains the same... so in order not to kill evrything arround... maybe
- defenders ms "helps" in the proces
- you are only allowed 1 hit per planet per day(so if you go massing you still go with conquer planet, but instead of taking it in the end you use destory planet option)... meaning when you take the hit you better be sure its a win (else we just go arround the 15% limit and oyu can use this to easyly mass/destroy planets)
- if you loose the hit.. maybe some penalty to hangar slots? like 5% whiped out?

-more/misc
I dont hate the idea of instead of conquering the planet destoryn it.. spec if you can target more than 1 planet per day.. as you didnt take it... gives a nice revenge tool... but such an idea would have to be, extremly tested be4 released in... and with limitations and regulations... else... to use your "raw idea" ms full sternth and thats it.... i can probably destroy 90% of planets in the galaxy with that... within a day

So work on it, how to limit it, how to "balacne" it.. else its no use:)

why not just add another mothership into the mix....
one that is just for destroying planets and such.....i
it is a a kamikaze MS
if you want to take out a planet the MS goes with it
the more it is upgraded the bigger a planet you can take out......

an Idea was thrown long time ago about using one planet to destroy another one (and is mentioned again here)
If that idea was to be implemented I think it should be quite dififcult to do... such as
the planet must be 1-2+ size upgrades bigger than the planet your destroying... (so it gets more expensive to destroy larger planets...)
Your mothership will be away for 48 hours while on this mission...
This will mean there will be costs in upgrading the planet size to destroy larger planets (which to be fair the planets that are likely to be destroyed will be "huge" and bigger)
Also having your MS out of the picture for 48 hours will also mean it cant be done very often by a single player to help limit a "sniper" style account causing obscene amounts of damage while other players cant do anything about it...

Well in my senerio your MS would be tied up for 48 hrs destroying a planet. So thats 1 every 2 days
I like the idea of possible suffering MS damage as well, but my senerio again has you "taking" the planet first and keeping it 24 hrs to prepare it for destruction, so I dont really see the threat to the MS.

Nice idea special atack for destroying mothership but then defender mothership must defend planet so first battle of 2 motherships then who wins. If attacker wins has left power to destroy planet if he has enought ...

i like that, but i also like the idea of 1 for 1 in destroying planets
eitherway i would like to see severe damage on MSs through this
