Hard Feelings.

Everyone,

I have noticed through recent topics, that people are beginning to take things way too personally. So before you rip my head off, or call this spam, I am trying to address a serious issue.

Look, we all have characters ingame that we play (except for the former players). But there is a big difference between intergame insults and personal insults. Now, I will list an example for everyone of my own.

ETL and I, get along outside the game over msn. (haven't talked in over a year though). We can chat, discuss various things, and have no arguments. That is, between his real life persona and my real life persona. We relate in regards to the military as a whole as well. Our ingame persona's however, have different opinions. lol.

Dyneasty and I, Get along over msn. Infact, we chat every now and again, and are on quite good terms. I am not a fan of his ingame, nor he of mine. But personally, we are good.

I bring this up mainly over what happened yesterday in regards to Teal'auc. I saw quite personal insults leveled, and felt the need to address this.

When we are angry, we often will say things that are not true, or just to hurt. Look, can we take a step back and try and leave the insults to those of a game nature. I myself can get quite pissed off, and when i do, i try my best to end the ingame character of my enemy...But I do not level personal insults. On rare occasions that I have, I have personally and sometimes publicly apologized for my actions.

I play this game for the people, the friends, and the comrades that it provides. You never know when that enemy you called something derogatory might be the ally in which your trust has to lay.

Well, I don't know how to fully express what I want to express.

Maybe it's because I just finished band of brothers on dvd, and ever since getting back I have noticed that it affects me.

And why is this in The Galactic Colosseum, you have been on these forums long enough to know this is in the wrong section.

ahhh....a good message Bill. People do take things far to seriously, and anger blinds far to easily. Some may attempt to contradict me there, but ask anyone who I have on msn, how I act on the forums and in other circumstances are different.

We're here to play a game, none of it should be taken seriously, and if it is meant to offend and annoy, just let it ride. I think most have forgotten what it really means to play a game, though I think no matter what messages and morals anyone spouts Bill, they will just land, largely, on death ears.

It's true, but I think that it will not change in future. Maybe I am wrong, but I think that the majority of these people are below 14, and this behavior is because of their age too. I write again that not all of them but their majority. They think they can say and write everything on the net without face, without accountability, and maybe they do not even know how wrong what they do. It's simply childish.

Of course there are older players here who hardly hurt others with words ingame and/or on the forums, and maybe they even like what they do. But I can write again the same thing that I think it will not change. Topics and conversations like this unforunately will not change their minds or their behaviour.

Very likely age has something to do with it.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Pianomutt, and I hope that at least a few people take your words to heart. Some of the closest friends I've made via this game have been players I've crossed swords with, either directly or indirectly, in the game itself.

I hope people realize that even when I'm verbally sparing with people on these forums, as I'm wont to do at times, I'm never attacking anybody's typist irl or making attacks on them personally. It's all a roleplaying extension, if you will, and a bit of fun. Anybody and everybody is welcome to add me on MSN for a civilised chat, should they so wish.

Problem is a lot of players can't differentiate between propaganda and personal insults. Propaganda is an important aspect of war and annoying your enemies can cause them to act rashly and gain an advantage.

Of course we have people from all over the world and with a wide range of ages playing, the line between propaganda and insults is a grey one.

Bottom line is i agree, people do take it too seriously, this thread will hopefully get a few to "chill out" a bit.

Thats why i personally think that games and stuff over internet should be taken with reserve or even ignored, because first of all everyone can even make you believe hes a female, tho hes a male... and thats just the beggining for a whole screw over :P

I feel interent was built to allow ppl for multiple personalities and to avoid scihophrenia in RL :P
