what makes a good alliance leader?

many times Bill (Pianomutt) has said that i was a good alliance CO while i was AK leader, even tho it was nearly 2 years ago, and still to this day he keeps saying that i was a good leader. personally i don't think i was any good and i know that others have done a better job than me including Bahamut. i think i was an excellent 2ic while Tomo was leader but, i have never rated my leadership as successful because AK had zero growth under my leadership.
so i was thinking, what makes a good (or bad) leader in peoples eyes, growth, membership numbers, wars won?

now seriously, i think a good alliance leader needs foremost to put his alliance needs in front of his own or another single person, and depending on the alliance type of gameplay, being a diplomatic person always helps

wouldnt know, i always thought i sucked at leadership...
I m a simple mind... point me and i ll shoot in that direction... anything above that and the hay in my head starts to brun
but if i d have to guess.. it would be in the lines of selfsacrifice, and willingness to put others be4 you... other stuf folow after that.

Respect. Some people just have your respect without doing anything. It is hard to earn respect.
I remember during the heights of Blahh's exams he still found time to council me through some tough times I was having in real life. I think the ability to distinguish between the game and real life(where you are equals) is another good quality.

You have to be able to negotiate.
You have to be able to compromise.
You have to be cunning.
You have to take and work through criticism.
You have to use criticism to improve.
You have to know your alliance's abilities.

Task delegation, get the right people doing the right job and it will all fall into place

Other than that i'd say being surrounded by a team you can trust who are also very capable.
In reality its not charisma, courage or patience that will make you a succesfull alliance, its
organisation.

I couldn't figure out how to say it, so I'm just going to quote Semper because those are exactly what I thought of.

Many others have said great qualities, and I believe a leader needs many, but most of all I want a leader who knows what he can and can't do. What his strengths and weaknesses are, and getting a good team that can help pick up the slack or his weak points.

Anyone with a Orwell quote in there sig makes a good leader
Joking aside, I think a great leader needs vision.
They need to know where the alliance is going, how to get there, and on the journey everyone in the alliance must be happy.
The Fighters need war
The Peace Lovers need Peace
The Spammers need freedom to post
Its all about keeping everyone happy, playing the same game and reading from the same page.
Its a free game so you can't make people play the way you want them to, you have to just get the best you can from people you've got.
Because the best.... Is all you can give.

Before we take into consideration how I could be if I was a leader (again), I guess you shouldn't start speculating you're the worst leader G!

Or a leader is someone that can unite people into one banner, incarnate this banner best and who's by its members considered as the only leader possible, just because this person has proved him/herself already. Impact on members is important, so yes, charisma is important. When you get unanimously (spell?) votes on a poll who incarnates best leadership and who's best to do this, you can consider yourself a good leader, as your troops trust you to command them.
After of course, we can talk about efficiency of growth etc...but imo, members being happy of their leader is important. Evryone does mistakes, but not everyone can be considered as incarnation of an alliance, even thru their mistakes.
