Teamspeak Server?

The idea was recently pitched to start a publicly accessible TeamSpeak server for community use. What arrangements would need to be made that it would be used by more than a handful of people?

i'd use it and i'm sure there'd be drunken singing on it on occasion

perhaps if people can start their own channels for alliances and that sort of thing as well as general chaos

What thats about me.....

Generally i don't think this is a good idea, because when 1 person gets mod powers on there, there friends get it, then people start getting banned for no reason etc etc etc then you have a big mess, if people wanna talk they have the forums, msn, ingame pm, IRC, if they want to talk over voice, theres nothing to stop alliances getting servers and then inviting said friends to it.

haha didn't mean you :P

i'd prefer to think of it like the IRC servers, obviously there are server admins, but on that server there are separate channels where individuals set the rules. The punishments from the #AK Channel for instance shouldn't be carried over onto the SGW Server unless reported to a Server Admin

Voice chat is cool, it's helped alot in other games and this one in the past. IMHO it's the next logical step of Instant Messaging

This is why I'm asking what people want and don't want to see on this server. This is not some random server being hosted on my home server. This is being setup by Homer and AdminJason, and I am also helping out. At first, permissions will be restricted. After maturity and responsibility is demonstrated, Channel Admins can be assigned and given a little more leeway.

This is a test project. If it succeeds, then it will stay. If it doesn't work out after a month or two, it will be canned. I assisted in running the TS of another SGW-based game, and it was quite popular.

I have been an admin on several TS servers for over 3 years now, you will always have someone that will cause a problem, or they think they should have rights over someone else etc.

Im not saying they wouldnt be popular, but if you want an example of how things get out of hand on there, look at what happened that 1 time with Pianomutts wife on that TS server, that caused an uproar on here, i dont care about details, because i wasnt there, and it doesnt affect me,

But take that then times that by 1000x when everyone comes on here saying, wahhh its not fair, i got booted but such a such said this and that, do you really want the hassle.....

Also how would you decide who had admin rights, cause no way in hell should any member of the game get them, hell look how some of the mods worked out on here, if its going to happen and be a public server, Jason should be the only person with Server admin rights, he can assign a few people to be channel admins that can deal with some issues, but no one from this community should have admin rights to ban anyone, as things will get bad.

wouldnt be a bad idea but it would cause to much problems. Maybe not at first but eventually it would. just stick to msn etc.

In the grand-scheme of things, I would like to have a team of publicly-voted admins oversee the server. But, that will not be at first. I believe I have found who my two other admins will be at the start, and we can go from there.

And on the topic of people getting kicked and banned... There will need to be guidelines set in terms of what is kick-able, and what is ban-able. More discussion on that will take place once we get it going.

Guild lines dont get followed around here half the time, no one from these forums, user or mod should have admin rights on a ts server for this " community " if you sit down and actually think about what you are trying to achieve here, you will realize it cannot be done without conflict of interest.

If you try to please one group of people, you will offend another. You simply cannot win around here, and that is fact. One fact, which, cannot be changed. That being said, you can still try to please the majority, while providing a useful tool for the community. That is my aim here, and that's that.

Public TS would be great. :-)

And this:

Though ultimately you will have people who will be jerks. There should really be no other rules other than a kick for just generally trying to disrupt the server. Though there'd be so many different standards it'd be hard to actually enforce.

I don't think its a bad idea, but its sure to cause some headaches...18+ I would diffinatly support that age group as being preffered, but how do you regulate that one.
