God?

Is God perfect? How do we know that it is?

If God is perfect how can it affect the imperfect. To exist in an imperfect universe surely the being would have to be imperfect as well. Finite.

No? How can it be limitlessly good, but stand evil? What is good? Is it not just a point of view? How can we know what god considers good? Is that why what we perceive to be evil is tolerated by it? Or is it because it is too perfect to affect the imperfect and save the innocent? Maybe we are just to insignificant in the quadrillions of planets in the universe?

THIS is NOT a debate about God and religion (though we would have to use the ideas set down by religion.) It is a debate about the idea of God. I have just set out what will hopefully be the start of a very fruity debate!

Rufus: He still digs humanity, but it bothers Him to see the **Filtered** that gets carried out in His name - wars, bigotry, televangelism. But especially the factioning of all the religions. He said humanity took a good idea and, like always, built a belief structure on it.

Bethany: Having beliefs isn't good?

Rufus: I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life should malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't generate. Life becomes stagnant.

Dogma FTW 8)

Its possible he/she/it is perfect, never really questioned it, but intriguing thread. Some diffenatly good questions, shally be looking foward to good stuff, well me hopes so.

the concept of God is widely believed. theres no proof either way so people can think as they wish which is good in a way. a person who believes proven things could still believe there is a higher being which is God. the more traditional could believe in the biblical version.

i dont believe the biblical idea of god. if there is a God i would say he created the universe and not just earth (within a week). its proven now that the bible is not very true.

if we are the only life in the universe i would be seriously shocked. theres such a massive amount of possible places out there. if even 1 in a billion worlds have life there would be a huge number of living things.

Atheists thinking they are right, though no way to prove it.
Don't worry Lois, just throw the creation of the universe at their face (I know in the book it said it was done in seven days...but well it was proven it was false, though, universe creation seems to be divine). They'll have NOTHING to reply to it! ;)

I dont know..the conversation exchanged does not say all people who believe in god are nutjobs, just that some people who do believe in God can act like nut jobs.

and yes..I like to hope there is a God, but im immortal so im all good either way. lol. ( :o :( )

so...the topic is not about belief in god, but the idea of God.

i dont think theres a God as the religions teach of him. but ill not say there isnt a God. its not proven ever way. theres always a chance.

what greater means of reassuring oneself than the belief in a divine presence, watching over and protecting us. id say the world has always needed to believe in God or a god. the day God is no longer worshipped is the day humanity has no fear, questions or troubles.

hmmmm . . . *goes look up God on wikipedia*
