According to you, what is the best?
Democracy - people vote for their leaders
Republic - Led by president, not necessarly a democracy (example: Iran)
Dictatorship - leader has almost all rights
Monarchy - monarch in power, can be a democracy.
Absolutism - Louis XIV is a good example
Anarchism - lol...

Republic for me.
There is another newer option known as a technocracy, but I guess that's just an extension of a Dictatorship which amounts to a smaller group of people commanding vast legions of machines.

I wanted to put it, but it's not really in place now...future will tell.

As I said, republic is VERY generic. So I'm not going to pick it.
I'm a democrat, I am center side, so I pick democracy without a doubt.
Afterall, let's not forget about banana republics

Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Pakistan (?) are examples of it, more or less.

LMAO, jim, iran isn't a republic!
if your going to use an example for people to help them make their choice you need to us america from 1776 to 1913 (pre federal reserve act).
thats the only country that i know of thats been
a republic both in name and practice...sorry to keep popping your balloon mate
thanks for the split BTW

sigh!

O'rly

Islamic Republic of Iran
And my example is totally right.
I said not necessarly a democracy, and given example of those not being democracies.
India, France, Italy, USA are all republic/democracies.
Netherlands, Sweden are democracies, but constitutional monarchies, not republics. But not old monarchy style at all.
Republic= commonly led by a president. Banana republics are counted in.
Democracy= NOT necessarly a republic. HENCE my pick of it. Finding myself north europe systems very good, not being republics.
Democracy is what makes EU more successful than rest.

What's your point?
I said that not necessarly democracy, republic were...if I given USA for example...imagine the (logical) fuss that would generate?
There was NO need to give examples for republics considered as democracies, like as I said anyway, India, France, USA, Italy are those obvious examples. Rther point out the non obvious, isn't it?
Because generic sense of Republic also includes:
Iran
China
Congo (ex-Zaire, Kinshasa capital one)
Haiti
Syria
Central Asia autoritarist/dictatorship ones like Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan, Turkmenista, Kazakhstan etc...

Most pretend to be one, few are really acting as a republic, with such ratio, I don't see the point to prefer republic over democracy, since republic is anything with a president as we see in the world.
So, if you are for republic, you are a republican, isn't it?

(sorry couldn't resist

)

if i was an american or if britain was a republic i would be either a constitution party or republican party voter, which ever one supports and votes to support and uphold the constitution best.
