http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx ... 70&rss=yes2 kids sent to 160 and 200 hours of community service for stealing virtual goods
pretty amusing since it was only a minor thing stolen
imagine what some ppl around here would get if people convicted them

must go check my Australian law and find out though could you imagine charging someone with theft who lives half the world away
you would probably lose more in legal costs and what not then what u lost
so if u were scammed or robbed of alot of resources in any game would u press charges if you could

i just read the article, they stole an amulet and a mask... and they got 160 & 200 hours?
I wonder what the scammers on here who get hundreds/thousands of $$'s worth of stuff would get....
and yes, i was somewhat disappointed to find it was runescape, i was heartily expecting it to be WoW

I wonder what the Dutch definition of theft is? Would farming or raiding fit their definition?

Dutch law is based on the laws of Murphy.
It's seriously messed up.. especially in almost all counts of 'cyber'-crimes.
Virtual theft is defined as the unlawful acquisition of goods legally outside their ownership.
Dutch law does not discriminate between the theft of money through cyber-fraud or of virtual goods with an attributed monetary value.
That said, there was a Dutch kid in the Northern Provinces kicked and beaten up over a Runescape account. The justices tend to be a little itchy in regard to that game. And for good reason.. it sucks vacuum.

Thats pretty sweet to see this happen. I wish it would happen more often so people wouldn't try to cheat to be good at a game.
