While I feel that perhaps this particular case might not have any legal standing you'd be suprised at how easy it is to land yourself in court for any online actions you may take.

The US especially has led the way in this stupidity, making laws that allow people to take to court someone on the basis that 'they didnt like what was said about them'. It should be pointed out that in the test case what was said wasnt slander/racist etc etc, mearly something the complainant disagreed with.

Anywho just saying is all, you'd be suprised.

There have been definite insults on this forum that if in the US could be taken to court. I'm not in the US but I had one of the US people sit there and point them out.

tekki is very correct when the speech is either defamatory or negetively effects ones reputation it can be brought to the courts as a lawsuit, however this is very true in mnay nations and in the US it is unlikely a judge would hear the case unless the person could show a monitary reduction because of the infamatory statements.

As of the original post, as long as the rules of the forum have been abided by and I mean the ones you agree to when you sign up then he would have no case. However banning someone from a forum is always a dangerous thing, but unless they could prove you did so based on religion race gender or something along these lines they would likely have no case. The one other hing that could make this type of thing an actual case would be if they could show partiality, ie someone else who did the same thing was treated differently.

In the end though ,most of this is just silly

that one must have missed the part about this being a privately owned forum...

The guy is talking about discriminations and unequality issue which fades when it comes to the private forums especially when it comes to banning.


Also a notion since the server is in Canada, mostly Canda laws apply. The exceptions are so exceptional there is no point in even discussing them.
