they eat your mine slave's food and make them generally very sad because unlike your miners, the untrained mercs don't have to work

Untrained mercs provide -SOME- APP for when you ascend. I believe they provide half that of an attack or a defence merc and less than the naq they cost. But you can take as many as you want through ascension.

Or potentially if you have a very tiny bank, and can't actually bank with anyone else, they are a secure way of storing naq (though admittedly at a great loss) but they are absolutely untouchable and the return from selling them back to the market is guarenteed.

In perg, they can also be a way for a CO to supply an officer with resources.

Naq transfers are not possible in perg, but you can still send mercs to your officer so it it is basically a naq transfer with Jason taking a 50% fee :-D

it is a valid tactic beb

and as you can sell mercs only for 50% of the price you bought them, it is a costly tactic aswell so I do not think it can be used on a large scale anyways

move to normal, hit ppt and get the naq you need transferred is what most would do.

I agree it is costly. When an officer is a new player, the naq, even after Jason's cut, is still naq.

Buy Mercenaries
Mercenaries Type Cost Per Unit
Untrained Mercenaries 1,500 Naquadah

Sell Mercenaries
Mercenaries Type Resale Per Unit
Untrained Mercenaries 900 Naquadah

A bit more then 50% I do believe.
