I think its a very valid and worthwhile suggestion and it is needed.

The problem is that it sometimes happens that the leader goes on extended vac mode without changing the leadership to someone else. The 2iC can't change leader or 2iC, meaning that either the 2iC is bound to the alliance, or the alliance is without leadership if the 2iC wants to go away. Also, the 2iC can't appoint a temp leader in his/her own place when away for i.e. a week.
Good idea

why?
isn't that the point of 2iC?
Basicly if a Leader goes AWOL the name is locked down. Besides, what can adding it hurt?

Well i dont agree that the leader should have to hand it over, that is why 2IC is there, you could make it that if leader is on vac mode for 30 days, the 2IC automatically gets promoted to leader, and the leader becomes 2IC.

how about if the leader is gone more than 2wks the 2iC automatically gets bumped to leader?
Be easier to code if it was pre vacation I think. IDK.
Besides, what if there is no 2IC? at 2 weeks the alliance is locked down.
And many alliances, especially new ones take pride in their name, and don't want to lose it. Not to mention, what if a player has a r/l incident? goes away for 1 week, something happens, and they never return.
Its just a suggestion.

Yeah, I agree, Maybe though there could be a "set to temporary leader" when the leader goes and vaca and that person would automatically be temp leader with all advantages a leader has and once back from vaca would switch back to normal.

I like this idea the best. Cause what if you designate a new leader to be the leader while the original leader is on vacation mode and when that person comes off of vacation mode the "temporary leader" refuses to transfer the leader's position back to the leader.

Then that would show you don't care much for the rest of the alliance.
If a Bank Manager went AWOL don't you think a Senior Manager would fill his post on a temporary basis? Or would all staff leave the bank and close it so no-one can get their money?

The effect of the ALLIANCE LEAD vanishing on vacation mode cannot be understated and some back up system is sorely needed
As a 2IC you do get truly stuck, you cant leave the alliance... and the alliance is and always will be greater than its leader
I will support a change here as the current set up is seriously flawed

But the 2IC could can always disband the alliance and make it anew. With a new leader

Not all leaders disappear by choice and going 'AWOL' doesn't not mean not caring for their alliance. Leaders are just as vulnerable to RL crisis as the rest of us. This is a practical solution with no down side I can see to a problem previously overlooked due to it's rare occurance.
Not a big priority but would be good when admin get time.
