Because it's a test server, there is a separate test server for ascended too.
BETA is there to test new updates if there are any.

although alot of people play it as an actual server
Well that's silly. Imagine what a waste of time it would be if it got closed again.

I believe the point of playing the game is to consume time?.... so really...

As long as its played Knowing it will reset, it is just a time passer and can be fun and freeing, and a good place to actually test things and not get sat on for doing it.
Sadly some are prefering it and I'm afraid there may be some complaints when its closed.

surely no one's gonna be upset if the beta server closes? I mean hardly anyone plays it...
Here's a thought, has anyone got massed in main cos they hit someone on beta?

I got threatened to be massed on main because of beta (when it first opened) but they never followed through with their promise...

2 reasons
it passes the time
and
you can actually test things you normally would not do.
Just don't play it expecting to keep it.

well, passing time, yeah, but you dont need to actively play on the test server to try different things out..
(i changed race from lg+1 to goa'uld and compared my MS and stuff ^^ so yeah, i know it can be good for those sort of things, but that would be for testing, not playing)
