Tok'ra saves SGW

I just heard something funny. As we've seen in clarkeys post as well as Korruption's thread, SGW was down for about 30mins then back up again.

Well thats not whats funny, its HOW it got back up and how Tok`ra figures into this. As most of you know Robe and the forum staff have contact info for jason for just such an occurrence. However, none of their official contacts for jason worked.

So what do they do ? They call Tok`ra. While the forum admins contact info for Jason didnt work, apparently Tok`ra was able to call Jason at what had to have been 3-4am Jason's time, proably waking em up, and 5mins later the game is back up.

Rather big of Tok`ra, considering how he got his latest set of permabans.

I dont know what this is a bigger commentery on, The forum administaration not having proper communications, or that Tok`ra is the BEST SGW roleplayer in the history of the game. Or both.

Sorry to disillusion y'all but the boogeyman of SGW I may be, but Im not gona call jason for every little thing. Slight respect for his privacy and all. Hell I cant even get my account back and all I did was post someones ID ingame (after Jason changed it, cause theyd impersonated an omegan and were understandably getting sat on)

Personally I don't think anyone should be ringing Jason at 3am-4am and waking him up just because no-one can log in to a game.

Was asked to post this:

Jason: Banned me for petty reason. Robe: Freind and good person, and wasnt gona go to bed late if she couldnt contact jason. In that situation, Robe > Jason, jason gets woke up (if he was asleep in the first place, dunno)

I have Jasons Mobile number which is on all the time...

...So i dont know why Robe didnt just call that.

Unless of course, its all nonsense...

Either way a simple text normally gets him online inside of 2/3 minutes, And if hes asleep i wouldnt imagine it would wake up him and the rest of his family at 4am. I wouldnt really call it saveing, more calling a number and getting sgws fixed about 2 hours earlier than it would normally have been.

I think a simple no will suffice to the latter part.

I think Buck and Clarkey have quite clearly answered the rest of it.

Tok'ras involvement was in no way necessary or 'heroic', spectacular or actually greater than unnecessary.

You should not hero worship fools and imbeciles Memento, it does not befit someone like yourself....

On to the crisis at hand, no. I totally agree.. it should have been left until Jason awoke. Waking him up at 3 or 4am was completely ridiculous I dont care who was or was not fretting. If I were jason I would have told ya where to shove it

(although if I were in Jason's position I would have a counter admin that was awake during the hours I slept to look after the game...perhaps, obviously depending on funding and the likes...)

Sorry guys but I've got to disagree - I don't know who rang him, it should be the forum admins if anyone is going to - but he should have been woken.

Why? Because he runs this game like a business. Don't pretend otherwise. Yes, it might be free, but we all know he has made, and is continuing to make, a lot of money from this game - and collecting it in the form of Kingdom Games ltd - a fully licensed public limited company. Either he or an associate should be on standby if there is a problem with the game.

Now personally, I couldn't care less if the game is down for a few days - it is only a game afterall. But the fact of the matter is, if you're going to run the game through a business, then customer satisfaction and technical response time are key factors.

Weather he makes money or not, If the game can be played for free, Then you shouldnt expect top notch customer satisfaction, Cos most people aint customers.

Playing for free is a marketing technique - who would play a text based game if it cost a subscription fee? No one would join such a game - and very few would continue playing if it became so.

Playing for free gets people in the door - they like the game so they're willing to buy a SS every now and then....or a dual planet....or something off the black market. With the sheer number of players thinking like this, this game has become a business. And if you can get a few people hooked on USS every week, you've got a very nice constant source of income.

I agree to an extent buck, but a lot of players could be classed as customers in some sense of the word, and many players should be considered highly paying customers. They pay for the technical response that free players benefit from - in the hope that the free players will become future customers.

Yes it is all exactly as you have described.. but it is not a necessity. It can and will benefit him, but its not a responsibility that the community is dependent upon in an indefinite sense. We could have all waited a good 12 hours at least really. We all know that Jason very regularly performs great and quick repairs and it has, thus far being an inevitable occurrence when the game breaks.

Like I said though, some of us would have a second admin in a different time zone so they could leap frog through the day times and nights.. but that is not the case and where as a lot of people pay Jason for his efforts on the game with cash, the majority need to bare in mind not everyone does it and the next step to saying thank you, and one that should be included with the first measure of thanks is that of common courtesy and a little respect. Ringing the guy at 4am, when none of us actually have anything to lose because he would put us all on ppt anyway, is ridiculous. No matter what business system is in place.
