What's up with Merc's?

I was attacked and the attack log showed only my homebase defense teams and my NID defense teams doing any of the fighting. What good are defensive Merc's if they don't DEFEND?

In the attack log mercs show up as normal soldiers, so for you that would be homebase defense teams.

Thanks duderanch. I just figured they were supposed to be tougher than normal homebase guards. They sure cost enough.

A couple of questions

First,
What's up with defense platforms and does it hurt to bye one without first having a planet?
second,
Do people here look on you badly if you purchase the supporter status for real money?

No, it doesn't.. as long as you get a planet asap. Having one can be seen as being well-prepared, as the new planet can be defended instantly by the defence platform.

No. There are those who frown, but a lot of people sell/buy stuff for money, so don't worry. You might do better to see if the money you would spend on the SS couldn't get you a better account (for sale on forums), or -when talking about the 20$ SS- you can also buy 20 million UU for the same money.

It's a bit of a thing.. you can easily get the 1001 GnR required to 'purchase' full supporter status strictly with ingame resources. If you're willing to spend money, might want to look into buying an account.

And if you never tell anyone, who will ever know?
The game needs funds to continue, anyone who "looks down" on someone for buying a USS and contributing to the site is holding a knife to their own throat. Without donations the game dies. Period.

Very good point there my friend.
Good hunting and enjoy!

What are untrained mercs good for? What is their purpose and what can they me made into if anything?
What kind of benefit are Mercs of any kind over normal troops or supers?

Merces are weaker than normal troops or supers. People buy them cause their cheap, and it gives them a few extra troops holding weapons. Also, if you have them, they will often die instead of your good troops.
Untrained merces, I believe, are just a way of storing naq. You buy the merces, and when you need the naq you sell them.

Mercs are = in strength to normal soilders. You buy mercs so you don't kill straight UU. If you have 500 weapons and 500 SS you can also buy 250 mercs and when you speed mass it keeps a man on each gun.
Untrained mercs use to add to your army size, but they don't any longer. Basicly the only use is a bank, which is rather foolish since you lose 50% of your investment. You can use them to gain APP when ascending, but that too is foolish as just sacrifising the same naq gains more APP, and the last thing is collecting them for fun, a conversation piece, something to waste naq on.

So say packing 635K attack supers with an additional 200K mercs is a waste of money?

that depends
1 how many weapons?
if you have 850K weapons then no its not a waste
if you have 500K weapons then yes it is
2. how do you play
if you attack alot and lose att soilders alot mercs are a cheap cannon fodder so its not a waste
if you dont attack much and they sit there then yes it is a waste

I attack and raid alot. But have never lost any soldiers yet? Not since the first time I was attacked the instant I came off my newbie PPT.
I think I lost 3 one time on one raid. But it was a successful raid.

The problem is I rarely kill any of the person I'm raiding/attacking troops either?

your hitting inactives, prolly no weapons. You also cant kill 100% of a def, i think the lowest you can go is like 19.
in the instance that you quote here, id say mercs are a waste for you, actually if you can find good enough farms you can go with 1 man and 1 gun. but, id keep all SS armed no matter what.

Ok, not to sound stupid but I've heard only send one man with a weapon lots of times but still don't understand it. Everytime I attack/raid no matter what screen I use, it only gives me the option of turns not numbers to send? the only one that I get that for are the lifers or spies?
