When is a good time to start looking for a commander?

I've just started this game, been reading some of the forums and it seems to me that progress is really slow when starting this game, especially without a commander. So my question is: should I continue to play without a commander for some time or should I find a commander who can give me advice and help me with the game?

THe best move I ever made in this game (Aside from choosing rep  )
Was joining Addoran soon after I started. Pick up a commander fast, a good one will help immensly. If you have a good UP, getting an extra 200K per turn plus bonus Naq and spy levels, and even a M/S from a commander is more than reasonable. (A good UP being 1-2K). If you don't have that much, other commanders will pick you up and will help you reach those goals.

I agree with Xeno, get a commander asap. I'm in the market for officers but this isn't the right forum. Anyway, a little tip. If you have just started out, change your Race to a Replicator and get your Commander to lend you some Naquadah to purchase your spy levels. 10% off at first my seem like a waste of effort but 10% off level 15-25 is nothing to sneeze at. Once you have done this, you can transfer back to your original race and still keep all your spy levels.

Tsk....
Once a rep always a Rep... Don't go race switching. :smt018
If you do go that route (However low it is... ) Remeber that you lose Super Soldiers so don't train any. Other losses you will be alerted to. In fact I think there is a thread about race changing (maybe even two) somewhere below this one.

Get a commander... Lone wolfing doesn't cut it in this game.
Also, You can ask your commander questions that would get you sabbed on this forum.

I just have the same thing to say.

Commander, blah blah blah great blah blah blah

Something new:
If you don't know what commander to get or where to look check out the Recruitment Centre in Misc. Be sure you know what the commander expects of you as well(ie. increase up by a certain amount a week, etc.)

Some commanders want you to be with them for a minimum time period, If you can't commit for what ever reason, then see if you can make a deal.

edit: in yellow...I had said 'can' instead of 'can't'

Awfully quick changing Avy you have there.. First spidey then something and now santa...

Ahem...

Lol, this is twice now i've tried to recon a n00b and the stats have come up it ????... let me try again.. Much better. Keep working on that UP, once you reach 100-340 you can try and find a tempo commander, someone who wont give you much (60-90K) but will help you build that UP. Your ingame's the same? I think I might try the Diety's method of positive reinforcement as this is a question that is actualy answerable with more than derison and an allusion to the search buttons.
Plus you don't have any weps
Hmm you are an inactive acount, I think i'll post a whole new topic...

Don't worry gentlemen, I've got this Dutchman under my wing as soon as he is old enough for this "cosmos".
