A small observation

Went looking through some threads, came across this early in the banned users thread:

A-Angry-Dwarf

Suspended for disrespecting a moderator after being warned for swearing on the forum.

I love how people can bad-mouth mods all the time now, and not get banned/suspended (well, except for when Jack is involved). I wonder if that's why the Respect group was formed.

You 'love' that.

Hm.

Is that you feeling positive about the fact that the rules are enforced less strictly, or about a certain negative atmosphere against moderators (which has been less prevalent in the past time..)?

Neither. Intended sarcasm of how more and more people are disrespecting mods. I find such behavior juvenile and unnecessary.

I'm glad that rule is gone, personally, despite how irritating the consequences can be. Moderators are volunteers at the end of the day, and don't deserve to put on any kind of pedestal above the rest of the users.

lol... if anyone disrespected me in the section I mod, I'd abuse them until they begged for death, or just give them a warning, saying that though..the debate section is a forum unto itself.. with its own rules and regulations... it's more for the adult minds though. Rarely do I see the immature daring to venture forth..

I agree that merely "disrespecting a mod" shouldn't get you suspended or banned.

I would hope that people who call out a mod because they were caught swearing on the forums would not go so far as to "disrespect a mod"...
by calling them a **filtered-filtered of filtered**...

But I know better... if they are mad enough to swear on the forums,
they will *quite often* get madder still at anyone who calls them on it...
regardless of the actual severity of the punishment...

I would submit that people who do severely abuse the volunteer help are going so much beyond simply "disrespecting a mod" that...

every reasonable attempt should be made to document the abuse to an admin and get the real **filtered** off to the quiet room for a good two weeks minimum.

I just ignore them. XD. They don't exist! DON'T RUIN THIS! Helping or hurting Jo... helping or hurting! :smt011

Really... there will never be a completely free zone from that, unless we have the debating sections part of a group subscription. That's too much effort though, lol. So you just have to tear them a new one and make them regret being immature. :-)

Maybe I should explain my disposition...

I think that mods do get more disrespect for no reason more than before. While they are volunteers, they should command respect. Why? They give their own time to tidy up and regulate the forums. Volunteers shouldn't get disrespect anyways- they chose to work for nothing.

About the suspending for disrespect- I do agree that on a few times' offenses, a suspension is not necessary. However, with repeated attempts and post after post of disrespect, a suspension is warranted. Order and respect need to be priorities in these forums. Yes, everyone wants the players to have a say in things, and yes, I agree they should. But not to the point where mods are treated lower than a user.

It's quite the sad truth. We live in a society of "Me! Me! MEE!!!", where everyone thinks their way or the highway, and others must bow down to them. Little do they know that the secret to being successful in anything is to be respectful of higher-ups, peers, and (should they think this way), underlings.

Well I'm glad I'm not alone on the issue :)

I agree with you as well. :)
(maybe I didn't make my point all that clear in my first post.)
