"National" alliances

Why do people create such alliances, or why do they join them?
I don't understand. We play a world wide game, we have opportunity to be with people from around the world, why would we want to remain in alliances made of members from our country only, while we can be with "around the world people"?
Can people from those alliances (or not) explain me reason(s) of their choice to be/not be in such alliances?

I would guess (having not been in one) that things like shared timezones and language have a lot to do with it - especially for countries where English is a second language and people aren't very fluent in it and don't want to learn it just to play a game....

I'm french, and we aren't really the best in learning other languages. Sure, I was somehow good at english in school (14-15 average rates in high school). But, when I came here, I saw it wasn't sufficient level, compared to english native language ones (when I see my 2005/2006 posts I find my english funny). I grew up my english level thanks to this game/forums (not all people of course lol, just some people good at it, not necessarly native english language people), particularly thanks to my friend Universe who taught me well how to use a proper english.
If I didn't decide to go in world wide alliances (AK, then KGB/The Triad/Soc Sanctorum), I would probably not be as good as I currently am in english, thus not seeing point of not trying to make progress and join world wide alliances.

And people don't explain their vote in favour of national alliance...lol.

I like being with people from here there and every where in the middle, but i think that some people find it hard talking in english all the time so alliances are founded for them to all speak the same, and all in same time zone. I have no issues with it and most times its a good idea.

International..
The ability to communicate, teach/learn with/from people around the world is amazing. I am capable of communicating with people who have very poor english and I do have a very loose understanding of several languages..
I personally believe any person favourite a national alliance is rather unwise. There is always a way to communicate the message.

i like being in a world wide alliance cause if some day things go horrible wrong and i need to flee my own country, i know i will have safe house to go too
that the only reason i get to know any one in this game.

National alliance might be fun if you live close together, can go out and stuff.. would be fun.

Otherwise, nothing beats the flexibility of a multinational alliance.

I think its more eastern European Countries that make these types of alliances, I think they do it because the languages are so very different, People from america and Europe, though they may speak different languages, they are very similar, French, German, English for examble, Are all based on the same alphabet, And many of the words are incredibly similar.
I think its a culture and language thing.
I sure as hell wouldnt be as (incredibly) funny as i am to a Polish man, who does not speak a word of english, As i undoubtably am to those of a more english speaking disposition. Thus its easier to get along with people of the same Background, Language and alphabet type.

when someone talks to the same language on here, we tend to think i talked to them when we typed.....as long as u understand each other doesnt matter if its spoken or typed - ive always written and read in a language a hell of a lot better than spoke it - i slaughter it
national alliances do seem to suggest a comfort zone, especiially if ur new to the game and have little knowledge of the common language used here.

I actually founded an world wide alliance in the hopes of getting people of different backgrounds, regardless of origin, to come together and share unique ideas on how to tackle problems.

I've personally never been part of a "national" alliance, and chances are close to zero that I would do so in future..

Well I think Replimagni hit it on the head personally. Its all about "local" pride and prolly knowing most of the other players in RL.
No offense intended to anyone its just the best example that jumps to mind, but look at the Slovania players. At one time when they worked closely together they were a heck of a group with coordinated attacking and such.
I myself do prefer international alliances, BUT I would join a national/local alliance if I wasnt at home already and the oppurtunity arose. A large group of like minded, same time scheduale, and same language players can be hard to handle when extremely active.

L.A.,
You've mastered English better than most people who speak it as a native language. I know people (in Australia) who've spoken English their entire lives, but can hardly put together a decent sentence, let alone spell it correctly.
Obviously, Universe is a good teacher.

I don't care. Like Semper, I can communicate with people that have terrible English. So that's not really an issue for me. But if someone made an alliance for Texans only, I'd join it in a heart beat.

I also understand why people would only be interested in joining "national alliances". It's like Buck said, most of the "national alliances" are from small countries where English is not a first language.
