few questions

Hi all
I am just getting back into sgw after a couple of years off and have a couple of q's.
1. What is a good defence for a planet? I know they can always be taken by a determined foe but was thinking of giving them some uber defence so it would cost them.
2. What is a good defence to not get farmed? also what sort of naq could you leave around with it before it becomes worth it?
atm i have 500bil def and have less than 10bil naq at all times, but this will hopefully be going up. Any suggestions on what would be best?
3. Any unwritten rules i should know for farming? Who not to hit, rank to start at etc. For now I have been limiting my farming to people below rank 8000ish.
Any other advice wouldbe greatly appreciated
Cheers
Chris

the first two questions can give a lot of answers so i'll jsut give my personal preference type answers.
to the first one, i never kept defenses on my planets. they either were not worth it or were the kind most didnt want anyway. now when i did put defenses on them i usually kept like a token 3 bil defense. its not much but keeps the 1 fleet planet stealers away. i wouldnt put trillions into a defense as there is always someone out there with the fleets to steal it, more so if you did something to anger them. the best defense is PPT and merlin's, they cost very little and do far more to protect the planet than buying defenses will ever do.
for the second question take your spies and defenders, both regulars and supers and add them up. if that total exceeds 10% of your army size (mercs not included in the total or army size) then you need to cut back. depending on your cover level you may be able to go a little heavier on defense but ultimately never have an income you cant defend. in other words dont be foolish with a smallish army and try having a lot of income planets, it just turns you into a farm and the farmers get to spend your income more than you do. in this game defenses are great for keeping small farmers away but do nothing to stop someone 350 mil army size from taking whatever they want and trying to prevent them from taking your naq is a lot like spitting at the rain.
number 3 gets a similar vague answer. if you like to take chances, hit active players, if you dont then go after zero defense players but do watch the tag, with so many wars many players at any given time can have zero defense and still be an active player. also hitting one of them also will ensure you are labeled a vulture and most likely massed or sat on, depending on their mood and alliance. so always check the galactic colosseum for war threads. also the vendetta section to see who is having a 1 on 1. but even then there will be some who dont advertise their wars and fights. farming and raiding is a dangerous thing sometimes, just make sure who you farm you can beat is a good rule of thumb, make sure they are smaller and hopefully dumber in the mechanics of the game than you are. its a sad fact but it is usually easier to farm the little guy than the big guy who will most likely have a good memory and full personal log of guys like you to mass and sit on later. stick to inactives or smaller guys unless you're someone like priller then you hit anyone you feel like.
