Bascially. Your commander will be the account they left on the main server, marked as a prior of whatever.

Alright... here goes...
When you ascend, you lose all officers. You also get a new account in a new server. In the main server you keep your account, only it is weak, as if you had just started all over again. It is called a 'shell' acount. Over time of course, if your commander works on it, it will act just like any normal acount and you can join back up with him.
