Brazilian players names in football

Does somebody know why Brazilian players have most of time only have their first name (if not a nickname) provided (and not family name)?
It's not the case for other South America players, for African players, European players...

all their names are the same. sorta like raul in spain. every second lad is called gonzalez. plus the brazilians have about 40 names each

yeah, they all have really long names......so just a short name is easier! :lol:

Not just the Brazilians who adopt this naming 'strategy'. The Chinese and Koreans often do it too. Park Ji Sung for example.
